Snap dragon Seed hack: I place them in a white bowl. Then I lick the tip of a chop stick. They will easily pick up a seed, then I hit the edge and it falls right in. Super awesome.

I come back to refresh my skills, watching your vids... when I haven't grown something in awhile. Your narratives are thorough and yet concise.. Your footage is beautiful!.. A relaxing way to get back in gear. Thx for doing these!! 🌻😊🍀 EDIT: Watching the tiny seeds being tapped out from the envelope.. Inspired an idea. Maybe take a straw. Cut in half. Split a couple of inches lengthwise. Remove the top half.. Leave it fully round at the 'handle' end... makes a skinny little seed tapping spoon. Cheers!🍻🌈

I have a lovely cranberry red Potomac snap variety I save seeds from every year. I saved them off a plant in my grandma's yard. I store the seeds outside in a sealed tote. they get cold enough to stratify but in the tote they stay dry. I haven't tried to grow any other colors yet. I've never heard of the Chantilly snaps until your last video. they. are. Gorgeous! I think the ones that have a gradient from pink to salmon to orange are my favorite ones you showed.

Thank you so much for this lesson as well as all of your others on growing other varieties such as ranuncs, etc. I'm 6B too and tried growing snaps for the first time this year. Started under lights, they germinated, but just sat there after true leaves emerged. I ended up putting 4" seedlings in the ground mid-May, so way too late. I will be experimenting with fall sowing this year for this and other cool flowers like larkspur.

In Zone 3 I used led grow lights great germination, I usually winter sow as well- will try this winter. Everything is about a month later due to amount of blizzards we had this spring

I thought they were easy to start, but when I tried them first time I already had 4 years of seed starting experience with other things, so that may have been part of it. I start a bunch of seeds in a small container, then separate them after the first set of true leaves in their own cell/plug.

My snapdragons bloomed up to Christmas in zone 8b the UK version. It is much wetter climate than the USA zone 8b. It was the last flower to bloom and it only stopped blooming when it got hit by minus 13 C hard frost. They survive our winters unless it is very old plant. The only issue we have with them is the rust in our warm and humid summer.

I have fall planted Snapdragons in 2021, it's January 2023 and They are still going strong!!! I can't wait to see how long they live in my zone 8b!

yeah, i agree, they arent easy to grow from seed. They are too sensitive to moisture and do well only if you keep them on the dryier side. I got them okay from 3d try)) Llisianthus are much more forgiving! I still struggle with icelandic poppies though, they germinate okay, but then die off slowly, and by the time they have to be planted out i have only a couple of plants out of hundred. I dont know whats going on...

I live these. Yours are beautiful. Mine was a fail for me. I planted seeds and we had 4 days of storms. I may or may not try again this this year. Zinnias also took a hard hit. I will replace the zinnias as they are a favorite annual of mine. Again thanks for sharing. Love to see your videos

Thank you so much for your great videos. Because of you I tried ranuculus and anemones for the very first time this year 😍😍😍 My question: Do snapdragons need light or darkness to germinate? How do you? I lived i southern Sweden, there I had the marvelous apricot Twinny variety, which otherwintered! Now I‘ m living in northern Germany and there do they survive the winter as well. Without a cover, in a container, from an early springplanting. in Zone 7. Yes, they did flower again in the autumn. This year I have the Twinnie Yellow and the Apricot. They are sooo loveley. There are no chantilly snaps to get i Germany🍀🍀🍀💕

Thank you for the information! Great video. I bought 12 dwarf snapdragon seedlings from a big box store 3 years ago, and planted them in a raised bed in my zone 9b garden, and they are still going strong. I am not sure if it is the same 12 plants, or if they reseeded themselves, but the same general row of plants has continued on. In my zone they grow year round, and have two blooming periods from late winter through mid spring, and then bloom again late summer through mid-fall. I haven't tried starting any from seed yet, but I think I will try this fall.

I agree that Snapdragons are not "easy to grow". Very slow, very fussy, require very sunny aspect, slow growth. I will definitely sow them now to give them head start.

Stole some Seed pods from a neighbour. Openes them up and collected all the Seeds. Threw them between the gaps of a dry Stone wall in my garden. Enjoy! I wanted to know if more people treat them like wall plants and if they were annuals or not. I live in a Zone 9-10 in the Mediterranean. No snow nor hard winter... So I Guess I Will just prune them down.

And I leave mine until winter. Im in zone 4a, so they start to bloom some where in the beginning or middle of july, and they keep branching and flowering until the frost kills the blooms. Second flashes are less tall and lush, but id say more usable in a bouqet. They dont overwinter here.

After thanksgiving im planting about 20 tall snaps and about 150 godetia...which supposedly likes bad soil..we will see...putting out poppy seeds calendula half pound!!..putting out some.liquid seaweed on veggies..and baby stock

The other varieties are from the 'Potomac' series, but they also grow quite large. 🌱🌱🌱

Hi, When you say that you fertilize. Do you use a water soluble fertilizer? And is it added in via drip pipe? Also if it is water soluble, at what EC do you put the fertilizer in? Thank you for the info in the video👍

Such great info! I’m in zone 6b as well but probably just a bit colder 6b than you are. I start my snaps in February but I’m thinking of trying a Fall sowing so your video is timely! Like you, my cut flowers are for donating so I try and turn my beds around for more flowers however I did leave my snaps in and they bloomed again in late summer early fall. Thanks for the comprehensive video!

Bte..i.checked my zone on the new usad zone map..i went from a zone 8a to a 9b!! 9b means no ice freezing and little frost..i got news for them!! There is no way im a 9b!!!

I have tried two year in a row and gave up . Following year my whole bed was filled with at least 20 plants. They bloom all summer. I only wish they were tall . Go figure
