Great video! It was very helpful! I want to propagate my aquarium plants to save money. Thank you!!

Hey man love your videos, can you make another one about how much proportion and which nutrients is best for plant growth. Thanks man keep doing these types of vids!
@Widquatics2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, one of my most recent videos goes into which fertilizer I've recently switched to and covers the proportions. It's the Jack's nutrients hydroponic fertilizer at half strength. It's pretty easy stuff to use, let me know if you have any questions.

Looking forward to the results! I have experimented with growing epiphytes emersed recently. Using regular soil the setup was either too wet and got moldy or to dry and the plants died. Using pond soil did the trick for me (a little more expensive). Plus drilling a few holes for ventilation and adding springtails for ecosystem health was helpful.

@@gue.k oh year i was worrying about the moldy side of the problem :) It seems like in order to keep things in check it have to be just right in terms of soil wetness i guess
@gue.k3 ай бұрын
@@ccn5065 with aquasoil and pond soil mold has not been an issue for me. These substrates are designed to be wet. Springtails can also help. But algae is still an issue for me with aquasoil. I think it is too nutrient-dense. A little bit of Long-term osmocote fertiliser directly near the plant in pond soil is the easiest setup for me.

Can I leave them outside in direct sun light, or is that too hot?

Do you get pesky knats flying around with all the plants you have and if you do.. what do u do to get rid of them?

I've been growing plants emersed off and on for 15 years. The only place I have to grow is my basement. I'm in Michigan and my basement gets cold in the winter. To keep humidity high I have to grow them in a aquarium. I use coconut fiber pots with dirt. I also create a sub floor in the aquarium out of light diffuser. I have a resivor of water under the light diffuser so I can put an aquarium heater in. After it's set up I just ignore it for a couple of months. I get some weird fungus and mold in my set ups. I've gotten sick from handling it in the past. For some reason the dirt tends to go anaerobic if I leave it too long.

Hi, your channel is very interesting, I would like to try to propagate the anubias snow white, have you ever thought about it? Sorry for my bad English, but I use the translator of Google!

What's your opinion wrt using ultrasonic mist creator instead of regular sprayer ?
@treys.85973 ай бұрын
not really necessary in this situation. you just need high humidity in the tub as immersed (essentially terrestrial in this situation, not really immersed) plants, especially when first planted and not rooted, aren't pulling moisture from the substrate. so, they intake moisture via their leaves until established, hence why the high humidity is needed. it's not about size of the water droplets. if you were using a hydroponic fogging system where the roots were getting fogged there could be some benefit as different size droplets can affect speed and efficiency of nutrient uptake.

You should try just perlite or sphagnum moss propagation like for the house plants.

can anyone compare potting soil and normal aquasoil(specifically uns controsoil) besides the decomposing organic matter that he already mentioned ? Aquasoil should be less messy to deal with i suppose.
@gue.k3 ай бұрын
I use pond soil and add a little bit of osmocote fertiliser. It is cheaper and I never had algae issues with it. Some of my earlier aquasoil tubs are infested with algae.
@gue.k3 ай бұрын
But don't get me wrong: the growth I get from aquasoil is good. It is just a hassle if algae breaks out. If you want to deal with it and can stay on top of it it definitely works.
@ccn50653 ай бұрын
Algae ? Really, even if the substrate is just barely covered with water ? I suppose the algae factor still outweights mud everywhere around my racks still… Maybe its because aquasoil is more nutrient-packed than potting soil ?

Where do you buy the plants to get started?
@Widquatics2 ай бұрын
You can get them at fish stores, online retailers, or local hobbyists. I probably bought my first anubias plant from a fish store 10+ years ago and have been growing and propagating them as a hobby since.

Can you try this with Anubias nana? For over two months now, my Anubias nana has grown several stems from the rhizome, but no roots :(
@fistofthenorthstar90103 ай бұрын
I have grown Anubis nana this way. It wasn’t my favourite way to grow it. Right now I use an automatic irrigation system. So my Anubis is out of the water. But the system sprays it every 2 hours for 30 seconds. It seems to like that better

You should space your plants more, the shoots could be bigger with better lighting
@Widquatics2 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a good point, in this case I had way more anubias than I thought so needed to overcrowd the tubs a bit more than is probably ideal.

Anyone that buys them is going to have an extremely tough time growing them in a tank though..
@treys.85973 ай бұрын
why do you think this? honest question. do you have a bad experience or just your opinion?
@Mullette3 ай бұрын
@treys.8597 when plants grow 'emerged' they have to transform into their underwater form, this involves them dying back a bit before getting used to being underwater
@williammcdowell62573 ай бұрын
@@Mullette Commercial production is emerged and generally success in an aquarium with many species utilises injected CO2 in part, to address this issue. There is more CO2 in the atmosphere than in aquarium water, partly explains why floating plants are easy to grow.
@abhishekasurendrakumar71393 ай бұрын
I dont think that it will be a big problem to add them underwater cause the plant leaves are already wet and the plants will do just fine.
@fistofthenorthstar90103 ай бұрын
If you can move them from immersed to submerged over a couple weeks they do ok.
