6:01 "too much water in soil" in the soil, the roots won't have enough oxygenation if over-watered for long periods, leading to root rot. Unless you have your philodendron rooted into your aquarium water, the aquarium water should have enough dissolved oxygen for your plant to not get root rot. There may be some rare exceptions to this though, including but not limited to lack of dissolved oxygen, improperly cycled aquariums, huge algae blooms choking off any oxygen. I've been lucky to not experience this in a long time, except for when I moved houses and over cleaned my tanks beneficial bacteria, nuking my cycle, and leading to ammonia spikes. Some algae is okay on decor or glass, but algae blooms could mean an imbalance (eg. Too much light and too many nutrients)

Great video! I have been experimenting with misting my leaves/stems/arial roots/poles/planks with my regular diluted fertilizer. I use a fan to make sure it’s drying and not getting fungal. I notice faster bigger growth especially with planks/arial roots. Thank you for sharing all your great tips!

Philodendron birkin is actually a climbing philodendron if you grow it for 2-3 years without propagating it will become leggy and need to get support like a normal climbing philodendron

Is a fogged up skylight good enough for the light requirement?
@kbeebuzzy5 ай бұрын
Depends on the size of the skylight. Opaque works well
@ThisIsMyFullName2 жыл бұрын
Good humidity is very necessary, in fact I would say it's the most important factor in growing large leaves, next to fertilization and lighting. Simply put; when your plant evaporates water through the stomata on its leaves faster then it can regain water, which is the case with low humidity, the stomata will close more often so the leaves doesn't lose too much water, and to further prevent evaporation the plant will limit the size of its leaves. If you have good humidity, the leaves will grow larger to create more stomata as a response to allow the leaves to breathe better. So if you want as big leaves as possible, a humidity of 60-75% is a must. However you can get large leaves simply by providing enough lighting and fertilize regularly, as long as your humidity stays above 50%. But I definitively agree with the notion that if you want big plants; buy big plants. I see so many plant people here on KZbin that buys baby plants and are really excited to watch them grow large, but in 90% of cases that will never happen. Not only because it's very difficult to give these plants the ideal conditions that allows them to grow large, it also very much depends on where the plant was grown from and the conditions in was grown in. But if you buy a big plant you are much more sure of it being a healthy specimen, because otherwise it wouldn't have been able to grow big in the first place. Not all plants are created equally.

My philodendron plant has drops of water on the leaves since I moved it indoors, why?
@marasmithson62182 жыл бұрын
Its either condensation droplets if your humidity is high or it could be guttation if it appears morning and night, or sap in which case you can check it for pests. Theres vids about the differentiation :)
