Increase your success by making a 50-50 mixture of your rooting powder and psyllium husk powder. Wet the stems, coat them with the mixture, pre-poke a hole in the sand, place the stems without knocking off the mixture. The psyllium forms a gel that persists and keeps the rooting hormone close to the plant during propagation.

Last winter all my container plants did not make it through the freezing winds, I had a dozen blueberry liner plants in 1G pots growing them out; only two TORO survived. The same thing happened to blackberry plants rated for zone 4, I'm in 6B Virginia. Because plants are stupid expensive, I'm going to try to propagate some of my berry bushes. I did get four blueberry starts with a tree order, I usually go to a blueberry farm in KY or a lavender farm in NC to buy plugs already rooted but those can be pricey for what you get. Mike Kincaid in WA is the go-to for rooting from what I have read. Groundhogs and bunnies are hard to deal with as they eat plants to the roots.

I just attempted to do cuttings of my elderberry plants. Watching this makes me think they are very similar to propagate. I didn't know to cut off the floppy tops, so all my cuttings are wilted at the top. And I didn't know to put a dome over them. That makes sense and they look like they would benefit greatly from it. Now I'm going to try the blueberries as you showed.

yes elderberry is similar.

Thank you very much for steps Q; what sand is good for propagation? Is a playground sand from hardware store ok? What soil prefer after roots are built?

Is that regular play sand ? I like your arch metal looking frame in background. Can you tell me how you made that or did you buy it ?
@Nafschool11 ай бұрын
why did you sand instead of soil?
@steveanimatrix38875 ай бұрын
You will keep more rooting hormone on the stem if you use a pencil to make the hole before inserting the stem in the sand. If you just poke it straight in the sand a lot of the hormone rubs off (you can see this happen in your video). Also always make sure to use razor sharp scissors, or razor blade. You want as fine and crisp of a cut as you can get and not crush the stalk, which dull scissors will do. It's just better to use a razor blade overall. A crushed stalk will make it more difficult for it to take up water and the plant will concentrate on repairing the damage instead of rooting.
