Informative video. I have double petal blue Aparajita plant in ground, and it's growing really well. I noticed that it didn't do well when I manually tried to support the vine with a thread. Instead, it does well when it gathers support by itself. My threads were of no use :D. It is really a very good plant though and produces loads of flowers. I am planning to grow white Aparajita plant from seeds.

@marlingirl18154 жыл бұрын
Hi Beth, I live in south Alabama zone 8b. These grow wild on my property. These are perennial so no digging or moving indoors required. I collect the seed pods once they turn brown. They will pop open throwing seeds everywhere so they must either be opened by twisting the pod over a bowl or put in a bag. I then store them in the 32 degree crisper drawer in the refrigerator. Mine are an orchid color and single blooms. I saw a video pertaining to the blue double. Seed are available from Baker Creek in Missouri. Hope this helps as I didn't see any response to your query.

hi there. your plant has grown so well. i have the same plant in a pot on my balcony, and i water it once or twice a week. a lot of the leaves have gotten very yellow. am i overwatering or underwatering?
@GardeningUpbeat5 жыл бұрын
Hi @Grace Ooi, thank you for your feedback, appreciate it. Regarding yellow leaves, most probably you are Underwatering. But still, can you please let me know how much direct Sunlight it's getting everyday and whether you are letting the top soil dry out before watering? If it's getting at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight and you are letting the top soil dry out, then 100% it's because of underwatering. Plz keep the soil consistently moist and plant would be happy :-) If the drainage whole is working and soil is well drained, it's nearly impossible to kill Butterfly Pea by watering, even if we water daily. Sorry for the long reply and plz let me know if you have any question and I would be glad to help you. Thanks again :-)

My butterfly pea (growing in a container pot) is like 2 meters tall already, but has only ever made 2 flowers, a year ago. Doesnt seem to want to flower.
@DeezNuts-hf2xm4 ай бұрын
Seems like you arent watering enough, they are super hardy and hard to kill but to really get lots of flowers you have to water more often than you would think, dont let the soil completely dry out. Sometimes with peas in general if you get lots of foilage and no flowers or fruits it could be too much or too little nitrogen in the soil.

I speak this from experience, but I'm not an expert so take it with a grain of salt: Put it a place where it can get direct sunlight, but also where it can get shade (like a porch or a balcony. Bonus points if there's also a place to climb!)

Hello, I live in europe and I have the seeds. I am worried about the limited sun we get here, mostly in summer and spring time, the rest of the year is cloudy and rainy. What is the temperature you recommend? and how is the exposure to light done? Thank you for this video!
@GardeningUpbeat5 жыл бұрын
Hi @Eugenia Robles, thank you for your question. Sorry to know about the Sun exposure but for us that's like a Heaven..lol..Sun is burning the skin and temperature in place is around 95°F (on average). Anyway, Blue pea or butterfly pea grows well in tropical region and it loves the heat n humidity. But still, it doesn't prefer too hot either like more than 95°F. It does well when temp is around 80°F. Direct Sunlight Exposure - I would say that it would need minimum 2.5 - 3 hours of direct Sunlight to bloom well. Saying this from my own experiences and morning sunlight would be great but it's also okay if it gets the afternoon Sunlight. Last year they did great in my Balcony and my Balcony gets only the afternoon sunlight from around 2 - 5 P.M. (in Summer Season). I hope, I have answered your question but if you believe I missed any important thing, plz let me know and I would get back to you asap. Thank you and have a great day :-)

Hello, I am just a newbie gardener and very much interested to grow my very first Aparajita. Is it Okay if I just use pure Fertile Garden Soil (made from 50% Topsoil, 45% compost materials and 5% saw dust , 10% moisture)? I do not have cocopeat/riversand and vermicompost (although it is available in my nearby plant shop). Another question, what do you call the chips that you put at the bottom of the pot? I didn't understand clearly what it's called, and are they really necessary? Thank you in advance, I hope you'll respond since i'm kinda anxious in growing Aparajita because I want them to turn out very well :)
@GardeningUpbeat4 жыл бұрын
@Cheska Casapao, It's okay to be a newbie gardener and while staring, we all were a newbie :-) Definitely you can use the potting soil mix whatever you have and it's okay not to use cocopeat/river sand and vermicompost. Aparajita is a hardy plant and not too much picky about the soil :-) The Chips - those are broken pieces of clay pot and you can use any hard objects like stone as well. We need to do that, so that water can drain out well after watering. If we don't do that, the drainage holes would be blocked by the roots of the plants or by the soil and eventually, the pot would be water logged and water wouldn't be able to drain well. As a result, roots would start to rot. So, it's always a good idea to have at least one drainage hole and make the path free for the water to drain out well. I hope, you got it now. Good luck in growing Aparajita and if you have any questions, plz let me know. Thank you :-)
