Hollis, What are the dimensions of that cow panel? How do you secure the landscape timbers that you attached the eyebolt and turn buckle to? What do you do if you get the white powder mildew on the plants?

+Pam Dragoo They are 60" x 96" The landscape timbers are two high and secured with 24" rebar. I will send you a link to my video that demonstrates how to build my trellis. This trellis is good for cucumbers and/or melons. If you get the mildew it is difficult to get rid of. You will have to use a fungicide. So for powdery mildew. I use a compost tea blended with a non-alcohol mouth wash. The ones at the health food store will work but I am cheap and so the dollar store stuff is fine for me. As for watering Soaker hoses and a cheesy timer that allows me to run the water for 45 minutes and then it shuts it off. Also, I like to use nylon stockings as cradles for supporting the squash and melons. Our soil is principally sand and gravel sitting on a foundation of Sandstone so I do raise beds and containers. On a side note: We both belong to the same kingdom which is not of this world.

This was a lot easier to follow than some other things. I'm not a slow learner, but people tend to leave out parts of the instructions you'll need for later, so growing these has been a fun learning experience. Our one acre community garden at Thorp Community Church, Thorp WA was difficult for seniors to pick cucumbers. We have to irrigate with corrugating therefore the cucumbers were wet alot. thanks for the info about using trellising. We call it "Gods Garden" and feed about 65 people from the small community.

This is my first attempt at cucumbers and melons. I planted cucumbers and cantaloupe in 10 gallon pots on March 20 in the southern San Joaquin Valley. Most of the few starts of fruit on each have turned yellow and fell off. There are some female flowers with a small fruit at the base, but I don't think the bees are pollinating them b/c I never see bees around them. I'm going to move them near the salvias in the hope that some bees will venture over and take care of it.

I am new at learning how to garden. I retired 3 yrs ago and now have time to play in the dirt. I am having lots of problems with squash bugs and other pest. I don't want to use chemicals on my veg, I believe GOD created natural ways to get rid of them without spending many hours a day picking bugs off plants. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I have been praying for the LORD to show me how to have a successful, healthy garden, and then I found your site.
