Many people say not to press down the dirt like you do when filling up the trays I've done both (pressing them and not) and it makes no difference either way for me both times it works just fine it's funny though to see people say opposite things about how to start your seeds.

Glad it was helpful! We like to do it this way and it was only a season so that its super helpful for the new gardener to see one video vs 10 videos and put it together. It takes a lot of computer memory and lots of hard work because almost 95% of all our videos are progression. Enjoy!

I pre-germinate my seeds before I place them in the cells by taking a paper towel, wetting it with rain water, placing the seeds on the towel, folding it over and placing it in a sealable sandwich bag. Then I put them in a warm location and place a magazine or some cardboard over it. It usually only takes about 2 days to germinate. Then I shake them off the paper towel, and place them root first down in a divit I have created in the center of the filled cell. This saves you a few days of wait time on the germination and there is the added benefit that you are planting only seeds which have germinated instead of having wasted and empty cells.

One thing that would be helpful is a time stamp in your videos. So when you plant the seed it would be nice to know the date. Then we could adjust to suit our zone. As you go along another stamp might tell us how many days have passed and how many days are left to harvest.
@ForGoodnesSake
@ForGoodnesSake 3 жыл бұрын
He did mention in the video, 2 weeks, 2 more weeks, another week, a couple days. He showed us what to look for to determine what stage the plant is in. You really just have to keep an eye on things. They are in Florida so it will be different if you're in a different zone..all you need to do is look up what zone you are in and that also tells you what to plant and when. Hope that helps...blessings.

It varies…vegetables in containers require more water than those planted in the earth. Different plants need diff. amounts of water. The plant itself will tell you by the condition and color of the leaves. Too dry and they shrivel, too wet and they rot and turn yellow. Good luck to you!!

Ive found it a profound and confusing thing when a resident manager of our (who was a self proclaimed organic vegan) yet used animal blood and bone meal as well as guanos for her garden. I asked her if she still believed one could be vegan if the plants they grew need animal by products to flourish, she shrugged her shoulders and said she believed so. She also refused to consume honey because it was an animal products, according to her, I tried to reason with her explaining they were in fact insects not animals, but she stood firm in her convictions.

I hadn't thought to give my chickens broccoli. I'll have to try that. Here in SoCal, past attempts to grow Brassica family were thwarted by some kind of harlequin beetle looking thing. How do you control insect pests on your homestead?

He demonstrated in another video 2 Tblsp of cold pressed neem oil, 1/4 Tblsp of dish soap and 1 gallon of water in a pressure sprayer, paying special attention to the underside of the leaves then spraying the top leaves till there's run off. He sprays the first time then 3 days later then once weekly till harvest. Don't skip the dish soap, it's an emulsifer(since oil and water don't mix) and helps the neem oil cling to your plant.

I get bugs in my broccoli leaves. How do you get rid of them?

... a mixture of water, mineral oil and Dr. Bronners castile soap in a spray bottle, spray generous and it will not hurt the plant. Or, plant flowers that attract those pesky bugs away from the veggies, that's what I am doing different this year!

I am having trouble with something eating on the leaves of my broccoli and also the leaves of my peas. Will this solution, work on the peas too. I have been using Neem oil, but it hasn’t seemed to stop them yet.😮

Depending on where you live, broccoli is a cool weather vegetable. If your winters are mild, plant seedlings in early Autumn. Otherwise plant early in Spring for an early summer crop. If you want to sow seeds do it indoors or a glass-house to avoid frosts. Broccoli is not good to form heads during hot weather as a) it bolts quickly to seed b) it becomes infested with bugs

They ought to teach gardening and home life skills again in the public schools instead of teaching them how they can change their sex! What a waste of the tax payers money! They could also teach foringn languages a little more! Our kids don't evan know how to cook when and if they graduate from high school!!!

So teach them. I know our school just got a greenhouse, but kids still kinda get it wrong, and I had to show my kids how to use spices, cook with onions, bells, etc that I grew so that they can make good recipes. My youngest even makes her own special alfredo sauce now, homemade, and learned how to cook real well! She even bested me on steaks! Gordon Ramsey has videos that show even beginners how to cook. Screw the school system, you can learn a LOT more on youtube videos on all kinds of things.
