How to Grow Hostas in Pots

I love hostas and have most of mine growing in pots so they don't burn in the sun. They are such beautiful plants and multiply so well. Yours are gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing Laureen yes that's a very good point, several of ours got burnt in the sun this year as we had an incredibly hot dry summer and we did end up moving quite a few of the ones in the pots into full shade which helped enormously. The ones in the borders have still not really recovered so we may dig them up and put them in pots for next year

I grow all my hostas in pots, apart from they look nice in pots/planters they are also safe from my mad dogs. I use oyster grit to protect the hostas from slugs/snails.

Thank you for the Hosta growing tips Sue . We find the grow very well in pots to . Luckily we don't seem to have much of a problem with slugs or snails thankfully as we have lots of wildbirds in the garden who eat them.

yes otherwise they would get too water logged and it may kill the plant

We find a good quality soil based compost works best for Hostas in pots. We make our own using a mixture of soil from the garden and mushroom compost
