Someone gifted me a beauty berry for Christmas. Do you have any advice on how to determine if it is Japanese or American? It is January, there are a few lavender looking berries on it, but no leaves. I know this video is 3 years old, but I thought I would give the question a shot.

Thank you for mentioning that the deer love this plant. I will avoid it and continue to make myself overjoyed with my Butterfly bushes. The deer walk right past them. I do not enjoy competing with the deer in my garden.
