Yes I have questions! I just received a new one today, its beautiful and it took me a long time to find someone selling it here!!!. But my question is about my old one, I have had it maybe 15 years, it was tiny, then it grew and grew to bigger than yours, it was awesome. Then it made a strange growth which is where I believe the seeds were, then I got two babies growing so I potted them up and gave them away.😢 Then my plant began to get leggy and I was losing the leaves on the bottom so I had two stalks with leaves, in my wisdom I decided to plant the plant deeper so it would look better in a bigger pot thinking it would make more roots from the stem. One of the stems rotted so then I repotted into a much smaller pot the remaining stem. So for about two years I've had a stalk with about three viable leaves but leaves only about an inch and a half big , I've put it outside all summer this year to get it to do something, anything. So finally my question can I cut the stalk and root it in water? Or is there anything I can do to save it? My mom gave it to me and sadly she passed some years ago so its sentimental.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 10 ай бұрын
Hi, I would try to save your plant by keeping her in soil. Make sure you did not place your plant too deep when you replanted her, when repotted too deep, your plant can suffer. So double check your plant to see if there is too much soil covering her base trunk, and remove any extra soil. Also make sure you have good drainage and proper potting mix for your beauty. I sure hope she survives! 😀🪴

Just found this lovely plant, mine is a bit darker green in the leaves which i read is because of lower light conditions, and I think it brings out the orange even more which I like. Now I saw it has huge roots with nodules on them, very interesting, is this the same as pea-plants have with bacteria that helps with fertilization for the plant? My plant also grow in a cluster, and I wonder, does it naturally set new shoots so that I might divide the plant into more plants, or might it just be sown from several seeds?
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The root nodules are for storing extra water, and is not nitrogen-fixing. The regular Spider plants also have thick fleshy roots like the mandarin but it too is for holding water. On dividing; Mandarin can grow in clusters, but be careful when dividing to make new plants, they tend to grow tightly knotted together and you don’t want to cut off too many roots and shock your pups/mother plant. Also when dividing, remember to spray 3% hydrogen peroxide on areas of roots that you will cut, as well as spray your hands and cutting tools to sterilize and keep pathogens for attacking the plant through the division cuts. Hope this helps. 😀🪴

I just got my plant, I have never heard of it before. I saw it and thought it was a beautiful plant. It has a stem coming up in the center, it looks like a flower stalk. Maybe not, just wondering if you had any idea as to what it could be.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Жыл бұрын
Hi! Hard to know for sure since new growth and flower stalk both will develop from the center of plant. But if it's a new leaf you will find out rather quickly as she will start to unfurl. A flower stalk will stay compact growing more upwards. Hope this helps.😀🪴

@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, it could be from your water. Spider plants in general do not like fluoride in the tap water. I suggest you try watering with filtered, distilled or rainwater. That might help a lot to get rid of burnt tips. Hope this helps.

Hello. I have had this gorgeous plant in my house for about two years now. I water with rainwater and I tend to put her out on a covered porch in warm months. I live in NEFL. Anyways, just recently the leaves are turning brown along the edges and tips. I’ve researched this issue and am leaning towards the issue perhaps being related to low humidity in the house. What are your thoughts? Should I attempt a report to check out it’s root system? And, if I did that- what kind of soil mix would you recommend for keeping this lady content indoors? Many Thanks!!
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Жыл бұрын
It may actually be from too much sunlight, does the sun ever reach her leaves in your porch? Maybe late afternoon the sunlight cuts in? That could be a cause. Typically though, brown margins and tips are from chemicals in tap water, but you are using rainwater which is awesome. As for soil we recommend a well drained loamy mix in this ratio: 2 parts indoor potting mix, 1 part worm castings and 1 part perlite. aka 50%, 25%, 25% respectively. Hope this helps.😀🪴

@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN .. Thanks so much friend. My house is south facing so my back porch get nearly zero sun but, you are probably right in that it possibly got touched by the setting sun. I think I’ll just protect her for a bit and let her recover from the stress before I do a repot so I don’t cause more stress. When I keep her inside she’s on a shelf that has grow lights but she is not under direct light, so, maybe I should keep her somewhere different with less light. I appreciate your help as I have been perusing the internet but not confident of exactly what I have done to cause this change. 😌

Hey:) I have a mandarin spider plant that hasn’t been living under the best conditions for a while (my last apartment didn’t offer enough sun light..). As a result several of the leaves have gotten a yellowish tone and I have removed leaves that have turned completely brown. The plant looks a bit sad. Do you have any care tips for me? My new space offers proper light conditions so I guess that’s a start.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 10 ай бұрын
Hi there. Yes, lighting is very important. But water type too. If you can, try using spring water or rainwater for your mandarin. Depending on where you live, your tap water might have extra concentrations of flouride, chlorine etc. You can also use tap water, but let it sit out for a few days to let some of the chems off gas. Hope this helps😀🪴

How do I propagate my Mandarin? Thank you!!
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Жыл бұрын
Hi! One way of propagating the Mandarin Fie Flash plant is by using plantlets. which are tiny baby plants that develop from flowers at the central stem. They are tiny but full-fledged plants. Take a baby and place in a small pot with potting mix of 80% indoor potting soil ( Miracle gro) 5% perlite 5% vermiculite and 10% worm castings, mix well and place babies in potting mix but don't place too deep, you just want to cover the base of plantlet where roots (knobs) are developing. Keep soil moist (but not soggy) as she begins to grow; about 1 month or so, then taper off on watering to a regular schedule when you see robust growth. Hope this helps! 😀 🪴

Is it normally a slow grower. I had to Cut mine back because thought she belonged to them. So I e moved her and it’s about 3 months and not hardly any growth. I’m also in Wisconsin and we still haven’t really gotten much spring yet so not sure if that has something to do with it
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Getting proper light is important, maybe place her where she gets a few hours of indirect light may encourage new growth. Also if she is currently in a real small pot, you may want to up-pot into larger. Manadrin's can handle being a little pot-bound, but if her roots are too snug in pot, nutrients in soil will be diminished. Hope this helps😀🪴

Hi, you could add baby mandarins to help fill her out, She is different than the standard spider plant in that she doesn't produce lots of baby plantlets, so clusting mandarins of different sizes will give you the effect you want. You could also try seeds, but that takes time. Hope this helps😀 🪴
