I grow these in Wisconsin in fabric pots with great success. Got hooked on green Chile when I lived there during college.

Gorgeous garden. I"m moving from SW to NY state but, I'm taking my green chile plant with me and seeds. I know I can grow 'em even in the north.

They grow very well in Central Ohio. Grow seedlings indoors, plant in May. Add sand to soil for good drainage and plant in full sun- south facing is best. Try Big Jim variety from Sandia Seeds.

will desert sand be okay?

It will work as as additive but they won't grow in 100% sand.

If it's mixed with regular soil and potting soil. It can't be 100% sand.

I got a question, in my region I have ants and with that in mind what do you do for insects that may overwhelm the plant? Any tips or tricks on insect control?

I live in the desert southwest and have not be able to grow large green Anaheim type and poblano chile peppers. The chile peppers never grow very big. Can you recommend a variety of mild green chile pepper that would be good for chile rellenos? Thanks for making this video!

Try Big Jim Hatch from Sandia Seeds. These get up to a foot long, with firm flesh for rellenos.

@@JS-cg3ir I have some Big Jim Legacy seedlings that I started from seed and hope they'll be productive and produce decent sized chiles. I'll have to try the one you mentioned if these don't turn out as planned. Thanks for the reply and have a good one!

As far as suitable sandy soil, ( try saying that three times, fast.) how would you rate dirt from Santa Fe?
@xavierhoover
@xavierhoover 4 жыл бұрын
I think the soil should be fine as long as it has some decent drainage and not full of clay

I'm think of having 1 row of Hatch, 1 row of Española and 1 row of Chimayo, in next year's garden. I'll be happy to harvest and roast my own instead of buying a box from Smith's. I really don't care for the way they give the box to you in a Hefty Bag after they roast it... I'm assuming that's also the practice in Cruces.
