You do such a great job with your plant profiles! You give essential info without going overboard. One point you made which was good was how big a pot to use plus you explained why. Perhaps you should do another video or 2 diving into more details about pot sizes in general. Well done. If actually prefer the cat palm to the parlor palm

Thank you! It would be smart of me to make videos that go over general topics like watering, fertilizing and potting so I can reference those in care videos. Doing that would make the care videos a lot shorter. Might be annoying to people being told to go watch different videos on those topics though. Idk. That's something to think about. Cat palms are great! They're on my list of palms to talk about.

Hi Jeff! I love it when you do the care of one plant. You give such great information that is very easy to understand. I wouldn't mind longer videos, in fact I really enjoy them, if you find it necessary to go into more details. You're videos are never boring! I've never tried growing a palm tree, but I think they are very pretty. Others mentioned Cat Palm and Lady Palm as their preference. Overall, which of the three would be the easiest to grow inside? I don't have room for a plant that gets really big. The size of your Parlor Palm is just about the right size. Love the Talavera pot you have it in. I wish they weren't so expensive. Thank you so much for sharing!

Are they hard to grow from seed?
@woowooone
@woowooone 10 ай бұрын
c1502 hi! The person who is giving the seeds to me gave me these instructions: "When you get the seeds, soak all of them for a few days, then plant all of each kind (even the "floaters") in a separate community pot, maybe 6" by 4" regular potting soil, cover about half an inch on top. Keep moist, but not sodden, and warm and wait. The Arengas especially can take a bit of time, like four or more months. I'd put them on top of a heated fish tank or someplace else warm, at least till spring comes." I have personally never done it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will do well for me. Also, some people do the" baggie method". They get a larger sealable sandwich bag (medium size ish). They put a good potting soil mix in the bag up to 3/4 of the bag full. They moisten it, not wet, lightly moist. They see to it that the light moisture is through all of the soil. They put the seeds in the soil and shake or manipulate the soil to be sure that the seeds get down into the soil (but not too deep). They seal it up and put the bag somewhere bright and warm. They said it's easy because it is like a fix it and forget about it method.

We finally got some decent rain around here. I was sure it was going to miss us again but we ended up with about 2 1/2 to 3 inches of rain. I wanted to do a happy dance but I figured I would end up hurting myself! 😂🌺💚🙃

Hi i was looking into getting one of these plant but im not sure no how tall they get indoors and would they do good near a west facing window not in front but off to the side of it
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 11 ай бұрын
Hey Kathleen! They stay small, takes them many years to reach even three or four feet tall. They would probably do ok in a west facing window. I've kept them in fairly dim rooms and had no issues other than very slow growth.

With houseplants, people need to generally understand that you would rather need to water more often, than come back to a plant and realize that the soil is just anoxic putrid mush. Use lots of perlite and vermiculite. Or pumice if available. These are stable media (does not rot) materials that are largely inert but that adds to aeration by making the soil extremely fluffy, especially when you're using ceramic containers and not the more porous terra cotta. Also, sometimes your pots will come with an attached water dish: use a mesh and a layer of the mentioned inert media to make sure that it does not clog. I tend to be opposed to these dish attachments because roots can grow past the drainage hole and make repotting a future headache.

I yend to forget yo feed do i use time realse rvery spring maybe in August while outside to give a bust if its showing signs of trouble. When i mive i tend to lise most my plants over the next 12 to 18 months. By that time i know what light i have. Hi Jeff 👋 great info and cool pot! If you ever get a chance, could you do a video on Shampoo Ginger? I got multiple rhizomes in Spring. I am in zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast area. They are now about 2 ft tall in the same Wide pot. I was afraid to plant out in the high heat, and unsure where beings we have no trees in this yard. Any info would be greatly appreciated. TYIA. Take good care of yourself. 😊

My issue with them is how they climb up out of the pot. Like, how do they deal with that in their native habitat? I used to have one planted on the north side of the house and it had grown up so far from the soil the new roots weren't getting down. Then Irma came and pushed it over because it wasn't anchored for the size of the plant. I actually prefer Lady Palm to this one.
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty Жыл бұрын
That is a good point! When they're potted, we just move them to a larger pot and that usually solves the problem. I don't know what to do with them in the ground when they climb up.

My palm plant indoors has branches with seeds. Do I cut these off? And, can use them to start new ones? Another plant is producing seeds indoors. In all my years growing indoor plants I have never seen this and I cannot find out how to deal with it online. Help please.
