@BigD-jc6rj2 жыл бұрын
Coming to you a little late, but shouldn't be a problem. Just add more dirt or dig up and plant a few inches deeper. Anything underground turns into roots, so you will be fine. In the case of a container like what he says, you actually WANT to start at the bottom, then add soil as the leaves start coming up. This gets a DEEP root system throughout the ENTIRE bucket. Anywhere that roots grow, you will get potatoes, as potatoes, by definition, are part of the root system underground. The idea is to have a bucket full of potatoes from just the few cut sections that he started with.

Would you suggest placing rocks in the bottom before adding the soil to improve drainage? Something I usually do when growing potted plants.
@johnlewisbrooks2 жыл бұрын
What I do in the hot summer months with russet potatoes is grow them in a huge 55 gallon trash can. 1, get a large plastic CHEAP trash can and pop drainage holes in the bottom. 2, cut a fist sized square at the base. 3, stick a brick there to block it up. 4, put potatoes in the bottom and cover with dirt. 5, add water. Within days you'll notice potato 'eyes' poping out. As the plants grow up cover with more dirt and water about once heavily a week or until soil is dry. The results are quite astonishing because russet potatoes are not only tough as all hell they're disease resistant and thrive in poor soil! I got potatoes so big I couldn't even pull them out!

He's just giving an example. Peat moss is expensive. So if poor you can put a layer of rotting straw or grass at bottom, then light conpost or cheap potting mix, potatoes, and then just put more compost and your favorite fertilizer (I use banana peels and a fish slurry I make from where I went fishing). Depends on kind of potato as to whether you want to let it grow and then add more compost or soil later as he mentions

How large are the holes on the bottom?
@GainingDespair4 ай бұрын
Size doesn't matter much as long as there is a good surface area of holes. If you only have small bits make many, if you have larger spade bits you can get away with fewer. Try to do as many as you can within reason without sacrificing the structural integrity of the bottom. Also consider adding a few holes on the outer edge near the bottom about 1-2 inches off the bottom. From past experience even with very well draining media the bottom 2 inches tend to be extra wet, I've tried raising them off the ground with 2x4's for better drainage but that didn't help a ton. Either way improving airflow will help that area and reduce the risk of rot.

Like in the fall for instance, I could START them when the avg nightly temps are 45F-ish (november), but by the time they're to finish, it'd be much colder. Find True Peace In Jesus Christ What does it take to be Saved? Faith in Christ’s Finished Work on the Cross The Cost of Sin Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. HELL IS A REAL LOCATION Luke 12:4-5 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Matthew 25:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Are we all Sinners in NEED of a Saviour? Romans 3:10-12 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:23-26 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. What specifically to Believe in!! 1 Timothy 2:4-6 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose again according to the scriptures so you can be free from Hell and Death. This is the greatest gift God gave us. By having faith in the Gospel you are sealed with the Holy Spirit forever and SAVED from that moment to eternity. Galatians 1:11-12 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Heaven or Hell? It’s Your Choice A PRAYER FOR SALVATION THROUGH FAITH “I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.” If you have prayed this with faith (Wholeheartedly) you are Forgiven and now in the Body of Christ. Welcome brother or sister. Remember saying a prayer does not save you, having Faith does in Jesus and what He did for you. What if I continue to Sin? What if I stop having Faith? What if 5 years after being saved I have an affair? What if I aborted my child 1 year after I was saved? What about suicide? When you first had faith in Christ you were sealed and secured from that day forward, no matter what you do or don’t do our saviour has saved your soul and made you a new creation. Remember it Gods Work that saved you not Yours. Eternal Security ( 100% Going to Heaven) Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
