Hollis have you guys considered making/releasing a book simply laying out just like you have for the Norland red potatoes as you showed in the video when you sow/harvest how deep what they're good for any tips and basically doing what you did there for each crop you can feel comfortable doing so with. It seems like such a basic thing but it would be a goldmine for many of us starting off to have everything laid out so organized and in such a simple easy to understand way. Especially if you can organize the book to go from month to month as to what is good to seed or direct sow in January, then Feb, Match and so on. That would be amazing but I understand it's a big undertaking

Have sacrifice plants and cover what you can with what you got. They have to eat too. Put in decoy birds. That move would be better. But the owl scares them. Just move it around so they think it's random. Lots that can be done. It's a pain but stomach pain hurts more. Worst case scenario famine happens you can eat those furry friends. You know what they have been eating this whole time. Lol good luck.

It was all taking a bit long but in the end I succumbed to the pace. I got it! I particularly liked the the real time and even more the diagram sessions. It was therapeutic. ANd the harvest spoke for itself. A variety of size to be enjoyed for its flavour at any one meal. I think potatoes are extremely versatile in terms of ways to prepare and cook. Hollis' premis to all of this is to teach his grandchildren the basic skills of cultivation, observation of nature, survival ...and patience. What a great document of the cycle of life. In my opinion there is often too much emphasis on forcing a crop out of the ground when we should be concentrating on allowing the plant to mature according to natures time table. The reward is reaped in the flavour and nutrition. Nancy and Hollis I almost fell in love with you both watching you grow with your plants and harvest them. In the end it is about love...and you have lots. Hats off to you both. I will be imparting as much of your lessons to my children and Grandchildren as I can.

So glad a stumbled onto your channel. I have been trying to find videos on how to grow different things. No one is as informative as you are. You answer and show everything i seem to have been trying to figure out. Thank you for teaching this relatively new gardener. Gardening now for 3 yrs but each year i keep expanding my garden and keep adding more and more different vegetables and varieties to my garden as i can learn to grow them.

Hi Nancy and Hollis! 2 things. 1)God Bless you both for your wonderful videos you are such an inspiration to me. I can't do all the heavy work (Diabetes, COPD, CKD and heart disease. 2) Nancy, Could you PLEASE, PLEASE do some canning videos. No good putting in all the work if you can't store your yield! Lol😂 I want to do the bucket methods. I'm in Port St Lucie Florida I don't know how much different it is here compared to your area looks like you may be in my old neck of the woods, Madison Florida. Thanks and God Bless you both praying for your health and happiness🎉

Hollis in Arkansas I plant my potatoes in the middle of February, and we have those surprise freezes once or twice before we are safe, depending on how high the greens are, I either cover the green with soil, pine needles, dead leaves or straw. Just let them grow up through whatever you use. Hope it helps.

I can’t Thank You and your wife enough for your amazing and thorough videos. I recently retired and my gardening has consisted only of flowers, shrubs, and many trees. I’ve been incorporating veggies where I can. I Really want to grow potatoes! The first round had tons of beautiful vines and few potatoes. I now know why. Soon I will try again. We live in Redding, California and it rains a ton almost non stop from November-April then super hot and dry all summer. I am sure learning a lot and will continue to watch and apply what I learn from your videos. My husband is having some fun with my experiments as well! Thank you!!! 😊🥔🍠

@@terryt.1643 I have never grown them before, got them from a neighbor who bought them as dried beans from a farmer’s market on the Reservation. I assume they are allowed to dry on the vine, then harvested before the pods split on their own. Mine are the tiny white type. There are many types.

Hollis and Nancy You inspire me. I weeded my pots this morning Praising God. When I pull weeds I ask God to pull the sin out of me and to help Godly characteristics grow in me instead. Potatoes are ready for me to add more layer of Dirt. I live in Land O Lakes Florida. Visiting you is on my bucket list. We made reservations in Weekewatchee Florida Neptune's Garden a small old fish camp. We have plans to go scalloping July First. My husband Eddie just purchase a small boat. clean some fish and throw the bones and shells in my garden. Thanks for your encouragement. PS Mac Daddy is a small engine repair shop so if you need tiller work we would be happy to barter. We also service ATV and Mowers, and Pressure washers. Tamara Griffin

Thank you for this video, Nancy and Hollis. I'm going to build a long raised bed like what you have, and I'm curious: How wide is that potato bed? Do you think if I make it 2 ft wide, will it be ok? And how high is the bed? The soil must be about 1 ft deep? Please let me know. Thank you! 🙏
@HollisNancysHomestead
@HollisNancysHomestead Жыл бұрын
4’ wide is what we have. That allows for hilling and easy when harvesting. 2’ in my opinion would be too narrow. Plants would hang out of the bed and it would be difficult to hill. 👍
