I never new that it was ideal to let the soil dry between watering. Everywhere I read said to keep it constantly moist. Thank you for the tip, I will try that! I found that begonia rexes and prayer plants are my favorites. I need to master them so I can fill my house with them

In my experience with rex begonias, I found humidity is the key. They thrive when humidity is over 50%. I lost two big pots but I rescued my third pot while it had just one half burned leaf remained by moving it to greenhouse with70% humidity. After one month now it has five vibrating big leaves. FYI my house humidity is 40-45% which wasn't enough

Very informative particularly about the winter shaggy ugly winter period, I know people who terminated rexes in winter thinking they did something wrong to them and they are going to die anyway.

Great video, thanks! I live in Northern AZ zone 8b and my new indoor Begonia is drying at the tips of the leaves. It's on a table beside the East facing window. Since it's fresh from the store, it is still damp, so no drying out issues. I hope it gets better and doesn't just die on me.

Have you repotted it by chance? If so, what is the brand of soil that was used upon repotting?

Two questions. First, these fancy hybrid varieties, can they tolerate morning light? I wanted to keep mine outdoors on the east side of my home. Second, can they tolerate high heat? I read somewhere that their ideal temperature was between 65 to 75°. I live in Charleston, SC, so it is quite hot and humid here in the summer. Thank you!

They can tolerate morning light. An eastern or western exposure is best. It prefers humidity above 50% and temperatures above 60.

I purchased three begonia Rex plug plants and planted them up according to instructions. I have not had any luck with them at all. They started to develop new leaves but these fell off, and more new leaves grew which also fell off, now leaving just stumps. The varieties were emerald giant and maculata. I bought them in September and it’s now January, so around four months and nothing..If anyone has any advice that would be great.
