Not sure if you’ll see this but I’ve successfully propagated SOP in water! I had a strand fall out of the pot that was dry/shriveled and I popped it into water not expecting anything… literally the fastest rooting prop I’ve ever had. Within days looooong roots and the pearls rehydrated. There’s new growth and it’s thriving. Completely unexpected.
@dinosaur79032 жыл бұрын
For the string of pearls, you can gently squeeze the pearls and if they are kind of squishy, they are thirsty, but if they are firm and hard, they are fine. Also, if the new pearls/bottom pearls aren't shiny and look dull, they are thirsty. I'm not sure if this is true, but it has worked for me for a long time :)

Your String of hearts is etiolating. The long arms arent growth from health, its from reaching for more sun. You know its healthy when the arms are growing but the space between "hearts" in the stem is small. the arms should be compact with hearts instead of having so much space between them. I think more light, as you mentioned, should help a bit.

You can wrap strands, without cutting them, around the top on the soil and each node can grow a new strand. To keep them in contact with the soil to activate the node pin them down gently with a hair pin💚

For my string of pearls and bananas it's so easy to propagate! I take long strands and wind them into the top of a pot and water it. They root and grow new vines rather quickly. I did this with string of bananas in October and now the pot has new vines hanging over the pot that are 10+ inches long and it's winter. I live in the central valley of California though and grow mine outside under my patio that has shade cloth. They get lots of sun and are protected from frost

I'm in the extreme replay crew here 😬 My string of turtles went from barely there at this time last year to being in an 18 inch tall wine glass and they are then trailing onto the table below them. Their pot doesn't go ask the way to the bottom but for the most part i water then wish a spray bottle so each individual vine is actually in a watered area, then when i are it dripping ever so slightly i stop. I don't dump the water from the glass as it helps to keep the soil damp longer, which isn't horrible when you've got more shallow rooted plants. This summer with the ambient humidity being 70 percent inside i didn't water at all, I've been getting inflo like crazy and it's hilarious bc they're the dumbest things to the point they're cute 🤣 My other string of is bananas, it's in a 1 inch pot and i sit it in a tray and bottom water weekly, i had no clue that it would want so much to drink so often but that could be the tiny pot issue, my daughter has one as well and I've had to reroot hers and rehydrate it a few times bc it gets dry rot so fast! She likes the pot though so doesn't want it switched, i did give it a better soil though! I would seriously LOVE to know how these companies can successfully grow in the soils they do. It's either like a sponge that you could wring out or its like a cracked desert! How!?

String of pearls can be water propagated. They develop roots in water very quickly. I mainly soil propagate, though, because you just place them on the soil and they take off. I have great success with string of pearls. Never killed one and have been keeping them for three years. I have some near my south window and one in my east window. They all grow well in their varying light exposures, the one in the eastern exposure flowering for the second time in three months. I bottom water when the pearls stop looking full and begin lose their luster. They're very expressive when they need a drink.

The strong of pearls actually propogate really easily if you wanna give it a try. Mine got way too much moisture and I saved what I could from it, changed to a super well draining potting mix, and just layed the strands I saved on-top of the soil. Each pearl will shoot out a root!

That’s why they die. If too close to a window even in a southern window if they get too hot or too cold or a draft is when you see these getting temperamental and they will get too hot and burn which on them looks often like the plant you showed that died from under watering. Drafts are not good for strings of pearls. Plus stag moss is the best thing to propagate them in. As with most stringed plants there are several types of variegation that will work butterfly, and others. Plus honestly it shouldn’t really have a regular soil. Best with a succulent cacti soil mix. it really needs a fast draining so they don’t get soaked and bloated or stretched out. Just soak during its growing season by you climate. Less watering in non growth periods. Then you can soak them and then let dry out. These plants like to be somewhat ignored but a tad more attention is needed if they have a looser soil then they truly are difficult to kill and you’ll be a happy camper, just my bit of advice. Yellow is a sign of too much trouble water and non full strings. Ive been a collector for 40 plus years. All plant types. Favorite is pregnant onions and plants of a thousand, there are Several varieties! Love succulents and cati. But also love my and trailtrees
@ashleynicole93304 жыл бұрын
Oof. A little bit about string of pearls. They can't handle direct sunlight. They need to be in bright INDIRECT sunlight. Like a bright window on a shadier side of your house. Giving them more than 4 hours of direct sun per day is going to burn up the pearls quickly. They also love frequent watering. I'd say to water them once a week with a spray bottle and use an extremely dry soil with lots of bark to drain the extra water. Also keep these in a porcelain or terracotta pot (which are more porous than plastic or glass pots). I just recently got my string of pearls (3 months ago) and it's already doing better and has grown a lot in that short amount of time. I'd say that the sun probably is what killed it though.

The habit of some plants to move in the direction of the sun, a form of tropism, was already known by the Ancient Greeks.
