She does such great videos. I had what felt like 100 bubbles in recycled clay when I rolled it out. It was my first time recycling clay. The next time, when I layed the very wet clay out to dry some on a plastic cutting board before wedging it, I slammed the cutting board down a number of times to force the bubbles to the surface, like what you do when you pour cake batter in pans. It really helped. Then I cut it in strips and slammed each down, one on top of the other. It was to force any bubbles out the sides. Then I wedged it. It made a big difference. I do follow how she let's her clay dry completely before soaking it and recycling it.

oh my GOD this video was so good it gave me those funny stomach butterflies at one point when you cut to the mitered 45 knife cut, I can't wait to try this. edit: Trying to limit myself to one question... what did you glaze it with? I have some grey natural clay I collected that seems to pit fire buff or yellow but I was hoping to put something simple and natural on it next time to get something wild looking like yours

It's just a white glaze with some blue speckles in it. The darker clay helps to give it more depth :)

That's so lovely to hear! Yes, the bone dry pieces can be just left out as long as you need until you have access to a kiln. Just be careful they don't get wet or bumped because they will be fragile! Hi from Berlin!

Silly question but do you not still need to wedge when rolling out a slab? (I know you said to pop the bubbles, but I thought it was a necessity to wedge clay before use. Does the compression of the roller stop the need for this?)

You should always wedge the clay unless it comes straight out of a new bag of clay. Rolling it out without doing this will usually result in a lot of air bubbles that you can’t see and the pot will not be as strong.

I source mine online from Rocky Mountain Clay if you’re planning to kiln fire it. Make sure to get a clay that can be fired to the desired cone. If you aren’t kiln firing, you can pick up some air dry clays at some decent craft and art supply stores like Blick.

glaze and then it's very important that it is fired in a ceramic kiln to at least 1000 degrees celcius. No other technique will make food-safe pottery.

I don't usually wedge when the clay is fresh from the bag... #lazypotter ;) If you handle it right it will be fine.

It's not a great idea to keep dry bits of clay for making slip as breathing in clay dust can cause silicosis. Instead, make a batch of slip and keep it in a slip trailing bottle or just a tub like an old yoghurt pot. This keeps it wet so no danger from clay dust. I have slip that I made almost 2 years a go in a squeezey bottle and it's still usable immediately without any extra mixing.

Sorry but bad advice not to wedge. If you miss a bubble your pot will explode. Yeah? Take one minute and wedge first.
