This person may be doing things the 'long' way round but she is a very good teacher for anyone who is a beginner or has little experience. She knows the thought processes that people are likely to go through and preempts them by explaining a good solution before a person just rushes in and makes rookie, or costly, errors. Very good instruction, well done.

Well, I don’t know what video you all watched!!!! She explained really well how to plumb the right edge and then match the two cut edges. I’ve been papering walls for years in 4 different homes. This IS NOT the way I’ve ever done it. MY NEW ROOM HAS THE BEST CORNERS I’VE EVER DONE! I’m really grateful for this technique and her advice. I’m willing to travel around the world and paper rooms for people now that she has taught me this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I appreciate the video. One thing I do differently is to get rid of some of the excess paper at the top and bottom once I have matched my seam. By doing this, it gets rid of some of the weight, keeping the paper from falling or pulling away. Then I make my final trims at the end.

WOW. This was a great video. Thanks very much. One question is when you trimmed the inside corner -at 10:30 of the video, did you cut all the way through, or just the the overlapping paper? I would think you would not want to cut through both.
@Billy_Bull_Sheeter3 ай бұрын
As the inventor of wallpaper and wallpaper adhesive, I would say that it is easier to cut the paper BEFORE using the wallpaper paste. Do the corner in 2 pieces.
@sebeden122 ай бұрын
The best reason to do it this way is to be able to match the corner the best. Sometimes corners will be an inch of of level. And with patterns like this it doesn't matter if it's leveled. Its better to see everything matched than have the pattern fall a little.
@Paulxj-6 жыл бұрын
As a professional, it’s hard to judge this video as it is aimed at the DIY person. I would have determined the widest point of the left piece and table trimmed it to that width plus 1/8”. I would have been much easier to install without all that sheet hanging on the right side. I then would have used the smoother to trim away anything on the right over 1/8”. This is called a “fat cut”. She basically did that right but I don’t know if a DIY person could have understood the concept by watching this video. Re plumbing the right sheet could be a video onto its self depending on how out of square that corner is. The easiest way to do it is to just throw the sheet up there. Match the pattern at eye level, then gently smooth out the sheet on the right wall. Don’t worry if some of the sheet lips up on the left side as you will trim that later. Once the sheet is smoothed out, use a laser to determine how level your sheet on the right is. Adjust the sheet accordingly. You might have to move your sheet left or right but make sure there is no gap between the right and left sheet even if that means moving the whole right side to the left. Once there are no gaps, smooth out the sheet and trim the top and bottom. Then peel back the left sheet so that you can trim any excess on the right sheet against the drywall and not the left sheet. You will be making a “thin cut” on this sheet meaning you do not want it to lip up on the left wall when you are done. I cut against a metal mud knife for this (as did she). Then peel the right sheet away from the corner enough to reset left sheet back in. Smooth the right sheet back into the corner. If done right, there will be 1/8” of the left sheet tucked under the right sheet along the right side of the corner.

I didn’t realise that professionals cut the paper! I have to hang some wallpaper in my bathroom around three corners. What’s the best way to do it?
@Paulxj-4 жыл бұрын
@@rebeccaard1 Assuming you are talking about inside corners, as a general rule, residential wallpaper is trimmed to the inside corner and the remaining sheet is then started on the new wall. This is done because most residential wallpaper will "swell" as the paper absorbs the moisture from the glue (or water in a pre pasted application). This causes the sheet to grow in width. As the glue dries the paper shrinks back to its original width so if you do not have your corner cut and the next sheet installed over a slight overlap (approx 1/8" if you're good) then the corner will pull out and leave a rounded appearance. Good luck.
@Billy_Bull_Sheeter3 ай бұрын
So do you leave the corner paper over lapping into the corner?
@sebeden122 ай бұрын
Yes you can add vov or boarder paste behind the overlap to hold it better if it's a vinyl coated. Also if it overlaps to much you can trim the excess.

Most walls in most houses are not even, so you can easily have an 1/8 or a 1/4 of an inch that is going to end up crooked, you'd have to cut the piece exactly and then matching the pattern, otherwise it will not match as in the video '

Table trimming is a Whole lot easier. You take 3 measurements, top, middle and bottom. Fold the material square on the table, make your final measurement, and with a straight edge and a straight blade ,guide your blade against the edge. The table is generally3 or 4 12" x6' boards of smooth pine. Paint store online sells tables, tressels, paper hanging tools. Whatever you do, don't follow this advice. The paper won't match correctly in the corner and if the corner is badly out there'll be a gap in parts of the corner.
@rebeccaard14 жыл бұрын
So what’s the advice?
@ffuter4 жыл бұрын
@@rebeccaard1 It's hard to explain, but I'll try. The length before the corner, take the waste off the bottom, which is the correct width. Around eye level stick the waste bit into and around the corner straightly and mark the wall with a pencil at the edge of the paper. Take the waste off and draw a line down from the mark with a spirit level. Put the piece into the corner like the woman above, then paste a new length. Measure the width into the corner from the spirit level line (measure in different places because it may not be the same from top to bottom)Cut the paper to that width plus an inch for waste. Hang from the line matching up with the pattern in the corner. I hope you could understand that. Let me know if you're struggling.

This is not the proper way. I've been a wallcovering contractor for over 30yrs. The proper way is taking exact measurements from last piece to the inside corner. Taking multiple measurements, add 1/8th" to the widest measurement. Cut that measurement with a quality straightedge, after installation of the first piece, install the other piece plumb and alignment to the pattern coming out of inside corner. Maintain the pattern at the same elevation at ceiling line. The reason you don't wrap corners with a pattern, is simply because most corners are not plumb, therefore you start going downhill or uphill. You only wrap corners when it's a random pattern and commercial grade double cut method.

Also I have never cut a corner like that ever. I understood why she did it,but I am sure at close inspection it would look a tad untidy. And for heavens sake why did she have so much overlap on the skirting board. Usual practice is to add a couple of inches at both ends. Other than that,not too bad.
