How To Harley Davidson Fork Oil Change. This was done on my 2002 Road King. I used 15 Wt fork oil 11.1 ounces on each fork tube. So the ride would be a little stiffer with the 15 Wt. This Road King rides like new now. We removed all the chrome trim so we could change the fork oil and bleed air from fork tubes. I hope this video will help with this service on Touring models. This will work on most motorcycles. Honda Kawasaki Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycle.
Tools Needed for this service.
1 3/8 open end wrench for tube cap
1/8 Allen head for cylinder cover
#3 Phillips head for tube drain plug
15 Wt fork oil 11.1 oz for each tube
If you have any question just ask. Ride Safe and have a great day.

Evening Rocco, thank you for the video. I used yours as I felt it was a lot clearer than many others. Everything went according to plan. I will pass on one tip , when you go to reinstall the trim on the Nacelle the back bolt is difficult to reach, in this order put a piece of painters tape to the nut, then the washer, put pointed vice grips to extend the spanner and reach in to where the bolt comes down and there you go. Made a difficult job so easy. Anyway thanks again and keep up the good work 👍

Thanks ao much, Rocco. I truly enjoy your how-to videos. You're guidance is invaluable. I love your reminder tips to be "patient and just take your time" when doing this. I'm going to use several of your videos (combined) to walk me through a complete install of a new chrome fork as well as a front wheel install. Key thing as you mentioned, take your time and take pictures of the original set-up before dismanteling stuff. I always neatly lay-out removed screws, bolts, and parts in the order that I removed them so that I can remember what went where, sequentially. Thanks again and I'll let you know how things went when I tried this on my own. 👍🏽🤠 6/16/23

Thank you for watching and your sub. The bolt at the top of the tube on the forks do not hold the spring down. It's an access hole for the oil and that's how you change the oil on Road King forks. Hi Rocco, Steve from Liverpool here.......Great videos buddy, I have a 1998 Road King classic (fuel injected) and am concerned about taking the top nut off as I heard that it may be under tension from the spring inside the fork tube and difficult too get back in once the tension is released. Can this be done while the bike is on the Jiffy stand or does the front when need to be off the ground as I didn't see you raise the front end up in your video, Many thanks and keep the road king videos coming as they are fantastic and I've changed the engine oil, filter, transmission oil and primary chain oil as well from watching them Take care and ride free buddy Steve

Happy to help. The front end has to be off the ground. I did it with the auto jack. Watch the video closely and you'll see. On my king there's two bolts one is to install the new fork oil the while the other one in the tree holds the spring down on my 2002 RK. On mine, to remove the spring you have to remove the top main nut. so just to do the fork oil you're just gonna do the one bolt at the top it will not affect the spring. But you want it off the ground so the oil is at the lowest point. and there's less pressure. Any questions just ask. Let us know how it works out. Thank you for watching and your sub Steve. @@TwoWheelRocco Many thanks Rocco for the response but I watched the video again and didn't spot the auto jack you mentioned but noticed the bike is actually vertical and standing straight up while you are working on it so its obviously not on the jiffy stand as it would be at an angle. As it happens I've now ordered a bike jack along with a 1-3/8" socket for the top nut and will raise the bike until the front wheel just turns as then the forks will be fully extended, with no pressure on the springs and top nut however your reply above suggests that for my 1998 model this isn't a problem, as the cap nut has no spring behind it and is a. fill point, would that be correct? Your videos are clear and concise and easy for the layman or DIY Mechanic to follow plus they can save you so much money in Harley service bills whilst giving you great sense of satisfaction to get the job done right. On mine the next job is the fork oil and then the primary chain adjustment, plus spark plug change. Many thanks again and keep those videos coming ride free buddy and stay safe regards Steve

@@TwoWheelRocco Thank you for your answer and taking time to do the search Rocco. On the picture you can see that the caps (bolts) of the forks have a hole in the center, so I bet that's for the air connectors. With the air fork, a person can remove the valve core and slip a hose over the valve to a mity-vac hand pump. Run another small hose through the nipple of a baby bottle, sealed with zip tie, and one of the cone adapters on the end. A person can suck fork oil into the fork via the drain, without disassembly. When the bottle is empty, keep pumping and pull the cone adapter out and plug with your finger. Pump up a bit of vacuum and pull your finger and replace drain screw.

Happy to help your front steering head bearings are loose. It's a bit of a job to re-tighten them on the Road King you're taking apart. A lot of stuff to get to that spanner nut that needs to be tightened. I do not have a video on it but look it up on KZbin and have a better idea. that is the problem. You tighten it and the bike will be like new. The dealer will charge you a little bit of money to do the job but it will be done right .I had to adjust mine. I had the same problem it would sway it would it would be all over the place if I left my hands off it and when you start going at faster rate, she starts to feel the wobble very dangerous situation.
