Great video. Would like to add ,,,, for those who are having trouble compressing the inner piston. Use a wood shim and push it in from both ends. This will help with the reach. Worked for me. Can't take credit for this fix as I gave up yesterday,,, and read it on a harley forum.

I usually change my pads when I put new rubber on but last time I put shitty pads on and they didn’t last as long so I had to do them earlier. I was pissed I would have to deal with taking the wheel off just to do the pads so I did it YOUR way and it only took 20 minutes. I’m thrilled that now I’m just gonna change them as needed and not every time I change the tire. THANKS ….YOU ‘DA MAN!

I have a 2003 sportster that has that one piece caliper on it. I change out the brake pads when I change out the tires. I have one of those motorcycle lifts it works great. I did not know you could change the brake pads without taking the axle shaft out to remove the caliper. Thanks for the video and I like that your videos are in real time. I’ve owned the bike since new and I do all the work on it myself. It has been very reliable never had problems with the bike. I follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual and also have a Harley Davidson maintenance manual for the bike on a memory stick also loaded on the computer. I print off pages that I need like torque specs and diagrams and keep them in a three ring binder for a quick reference.

So I watch alot of ur videos roco and just tried to do my pads myself I'm not a mechanic more of a builder/carpenter so I'm handy I got tons of tools but my pads didn't slide out or slide back in as easy as urs do. I ended up getting them in but for a novice person I found that pressing in the pistons with the flat head wasn't so pleasant as soon as I press them in they would creep out just enough to stop the pad sliding in but after swearing 59 times and kicking my neighbors cat I got her in ther....I followed ur method of removing the cap on my master cylinder but they didn't collapse as easy as urs so if u guys try to do this at home that was the toughest part for me especially on the inside pad...👍

I'm glad all went well. Most times you have to compress those pistons 100% for the new Brake Pads. But it seems like you have everything on the control. Thank you for watching all your support Ricky. Ride safe and have a great day. Love those Road King.

Great video bro... been in the habit of taking the whole damn rear wheel off and caliper just to replace the pads. Got the front done last week, looking forward to doing the rear this weekend.

Happy to Help. It is a little tricky...Take a close look how the pad lay on rotor and turn wheel. compressed caliper piston all the way and this will give you the room needed. Any questions just ask.

I'm gonna need a new tire after this season. Would you recommend I wait till then since I have to take the wheel off anyway. Pads are still good, but I want to change them this year after the season. What are your thoughts?

Hi Rocco, great video again, just one question, when compressing the brake calliper pistons with the master cylinder cover off as in the video, does the brake fluid overflow when you push the calliper pistons all the way back to accept, newer, thicker brake pads and is it prudent to cover the master cylinder with a clean rag to absorb any brake fluid in case of spillage? BTW Can you do a video of how to manually check the ignition timing on a road king as I have a 1998 model Keep making these great videos Ride free and be safe Steve
@TwoWheelRocco3 жыл бұрын
As for the brake fluid check it prior doing the brake pads as you collapse that cylinder fluid will return to your master cylinder. Be careful you don't want to get brake fluid on the paint. I hope that helps as far as the ignition. You should not have to worry about. For watching Steve. Ride safe and have a great day.

Do you have a video for replacing the timing chain and tentioner with the upgrade/newer materials and newer style smooth edge chain. I've got 37k on the beast and don't want that to fly to s--t while on the road

Rocco, did the master overflow at all when you compressed the pistons? Would you recommend taking a little bit of fluid out at the beginning?
@TwoWheelRocco3 жыл бұрын
Yes I would loosen the cap and take some out. Sorry I was not clear on that. Thank you for your comment and Sub Jorge. Let us know how that works out. Ride Safe and have a great Day.

On your bike. It has a split rotor that is why you have those pins to rest the pads on .. on most bikes they have a solid rotor.so a little harder to put pads on but a easy process
