Thx for the vid. We live in eastern Washington where they grow a lot of hops. We've been wondering how they are harvested and processed. Thx?

What is the best string to use so the hops climb up it and which way do you wind them.
@NorthernBrewerTV4 жыл бұрын
You can use various strength of twine, rope, or wire cables. You just want to make sure it's not really thin twine because the bines can get quite heavy. Plus, whatever you used needs to be able to also stand up to months of weather (heat, rain, wind, etc.). The bines are trained clockwise around the line or wire, so that they follow the sun throughout the day.

Can you please tell me in which climate we can plant hops seeds
@NorthernBrewerTV2 жыл бұрын
You can plant hops in most climates around the world. You might have to wait longer to plant depending on where you live and what your chances of late season frost are.

Nice to see new NB content! Any particular hop you’d recommend for growing in TX?
@NorthernBrewerTV4 жыл бұрын
We're not quite sure but can look into it. One of the best resources for questions like this in any region of the country is your local college or university agriculture department/extension or community coop. They likely have research on hops in your area. If you find out, let's us know!

I live in SA. Our local HBS recommends you practically don’t bother trying; the annual climate is brutal on most breeds. Then again, if you’re teleworking indefinitely, and can put forth the time and TLC hops warrant, give it a go. Good luck and make sure you have ample shade for a good portion of the day.

Justin Martin good to know. I’m in the Dallas area and only have baby trees, so not a lot of shade options yet. I will probably email TX A&M to see if they recommend any varieties. I’ll follow up here with what I find out.

Great timing. I was just telling my wife that I need to start growing my own hops. Too late this year I know, but I'll definitely get it going next year. Question, is it a one and done for the plant or will it produce multiple years? I'll keep an eye out for the rest of the story as I need to know when to plant, where to plant etc.... Thanks for posting!

You cut the bines in the fall. They will come back in the next spring.

Hops are extremely hearty and if taken care of will flourish year after year. We love your comment. This is exactly why we wanted to do this series, to help first-year growers and to be a resource for folks who might start next year (and beyond). Definitely sign up for our email newsletter so you get the early heads up when rhizomes go on sale next spring. www.northernbrewer.com/pages/newsletter
