How to Harvest Rosemary

In this video, Margaret shows you how easy it is to harvest rosemary. You want to make sure you choose Rosemary stems that are healthy. The leaves should be bright green plump and free of damage from disease or insect bits. Clip your stems with sharp grading shears or scissors. To ensure your plant continues to grow well never cut more than 20% of the plant.

First, take some cuttings to root just in case it doesn't make it over the winter. I have a video coming out next week on how to do that if you're not sure. Make sure you have mulch or a thick blanket of leaves around the plant but not up against the trunk. Don't over water in the winter. Our rosemary has survived ice several years in a row.

My rosemary plant is looking very dismal. All the leaves went blackish, and hardly any on the plant now. It looks like a mini dead stump. I can't tell if I over or under watered it. There was also some white powder that I'm told is probably mold or a fungus. Any thoughts? Can my dead looking plant be salvaged, or should I chuck it and start over? Oh! forgot to say it's in a terracotta pot.

That sounds like overwatering/too much rain maybe. I'd cut it back and give it a few weeks. If you don't see any green then start over.

That depends on the growing conditions and the time of year you cut it. If you are talking about in the fall/cutting back for winter, it will grow back in the spring.

theirs differnt types of rosemary, you probably have a groundcover instead of an upright
