I'm new to having a tank, I got 2 mystery snails about 2 months ago for my Betta tank and 2 shrimp (I have a planted tank). The first 2 clutches were given to people in my group, I have 2 more clutches now and no one seems to want them. I'm going to hatch them and am looking for another tank for them. I'm so glad I found you and now feel that I can be successful at raising them, my two are orange and a grey blue.

So excited to have found you! Some questions - where do I find those tiny plastic containers for the clutches? Do you incubate those by floating them in the aquarium? The black mesh in the container - where can I find some? You mentioned housing them in a cup for 4 days and changing water every day - full water change? What kind of substrate in the 2 gallon after transfer? Best water parameters? Does the water get cold during the 4 days? Thanking you in advance as I have 4 clutches right now. They are currently in a Tupperware type containers with holes on top. Looking forward to hearing from you! 🙂
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes 4 ай бұрын
Welcome! I'm glad I can be of assistance! The tiny containers are condiment containers from the Dollar Tree store. Yes, I do incubate them by floating them in the aquarium. It helps keep them the appropriate temp and humidity while they are forming in the clutch. The black mesh is crafter mesh from Hobby Lobby - you'll want the smallest squares of the mesh (they come in different sizes squares). Yes, while having them in the cup, a full water change is recommended. They are air breathers and will be fine for a minute while you refresh their water. ( If there's a few tablespoons of old water left behind, that's OK too!) After transfer, I keep them in a bare bottom tank with a fine grade sponge filter. It's much easier to clean the tank with no substrate, and babies make a mess easy! I don't like introducing them to substrate until they are at least pea sized. Pool filter sand would be great for them once they are ready, it's soft on their precious foot. For parameters, I keep my snaibies at 73F, 8.0 pH, and kH of 14. As long as it's hard, slightly alkaline water in the low 70's- high 60's, they'll be happy! The water in the cup is room temp. My fish room is 73, so the unheated tanks and cups are at 73 - that will vary on how warm your room runs. The Tupperware containers are a good idea! Holes in lid good for oxygen exchange and humidity control! Do you have your clutches on the bottom of the Tupperware, or raised up? You don't want the clutches sitting in any water drops, as it fouls the clutch. Before I found the mesh, I just used a little square of salad container lid to put the clutch on. I put paper towel dampened with tank water in first, then clutch on plastic next. Change paper towel to new once a day. Wipe out extra condensation when switching paper. If you have any more questions, I'm here to help! Have a whorl of a day!🐌💜🧜‍♀️

Thank you for this video! I have watched it 10x while my very first 3 clutches incubate ❤ I have two breeder boxes that share the aquarium water (no pump just slits that allow water flow) do I need to do frequent water changes in the nursery tank that has the breeder box? I also have teeny tiny baby shrimplets in tank (not in breeder box) so not sure how to keep the substrate clean ☆♡☆♡
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes 25 күн бұрын
@mistysummerlue congrats on your snail babies! If you have the breeder box setup for the aquarium water to flow into and back out of it, then you don't need to change the breeder box water. You may need to do some turkey baster maintenance for debris. If you have alot of snail babies in breeder boxes on the nursery tank, I recommend changing the nursery tank water once a week. You said you have shrimplets in the nursery tank with substrate. It'll be hard to use a gravel vacuum, but you can try using airline tubing to drain into a bucket. That way, you can pick up debris and check the bucket after for any accidental shrimplets. For my shrimplets nursery, I leave bare bottom, but add potted aquarium plants. The shrimplets still have flora, and it's easier to clean.

@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes 4 ай бұрын
If you have a hang on back filter, check underneath and behind the waterfall in the tank. They love to hide clutches back there! Any unwanted clutches, you can freeze and feed back to the tank as a source of calcium and protein.

I did not feed mine immediately but there’s a ton of bio film in the container I put them in so hopefully they go good
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes Жыл бұрын
Biofilm and their egg casing will sustain them for the first day. You'll want to do a water change the second day to remove any remaining casing and feed them after the water change. Only little bits of food at each feeding, if your container is small. Daily water changes, as well, until you move them to a larger container/aquarium. Thank you for watching!

@@FoxiesFishes why so much water changing ? I have lots of other snails and water quality don’t seem to affect them a lot
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes Жыл бұрын
@harryfp1494 if you hatch them in a small container that only holds 2 cups of water, toxic levels of ammonia can build up fast. Also snails are poop machines. Water changes are critical for the health and longevity of the snail. As a momma to over 100,000 mystery snails, my applications have never failed. 💜🐌💜

HELP! My snail’s eggs are partly attached to the lid of my aquarium! I need to take the lid off at some point to feed/change filter. Any tips?? Thanks so much
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes 25 күн бұрын
@TiedyeHomie Did momma snail lay the clutch over the seam? If so, wait 1 day to open the lid. The clutch may break, but it should be firm enough to detach. You can then place the clutch in a tiny Tupperware like my incubator, to finish hatching them. Even if the clutch does split, snails will still hatch from the clutch, but not as many. The fish will be OK without a feeding for a day. I fast my fish once a week to keep them regular.

So my mystery snail laid about 2-3 days ago, and the insides are turning white. I read it could be dry but its so humid in there! is it them developing?
@FoxiesFishes
@FoxiesFishes 6 ай бұрын
A white, thin shell is a sign that the egg casing is too dry. They need to be at 80%+ humidity to develop. Another time the shell will begin to look white is if it is too wet and developing fungus. Does your clutch look wet? Reduce humidity. Does it look dry? Increase humidity. Let me know how they hatch for you, please!💜

I'm so sorry this happened! It sounds like the environment was too dry and the babies couldn't get out when they were ready. You want to make sure to keep the humidity level at 80% the whole time until the clutch hatches. You can do this by placing the clutch in an incubator, like in the video, and using a damp piece of paper towel. Make sure to replace the paper towel every 2 days until they hatch. I hope this helps you! 💜🧜‍♀️💜
