Gonna try this. I found a large clutch on the lid this morning. Put a seal around the lid with a towel so the humidity kinda gets trapped in. Also installed a 2nd heater in my 55 gal so there’s 1 on each side and keeps the temp at a steady 79 F.

Thank you so much for this video! I have my first clutch in my tank right now. I followed the steps exactly in this video to make the incubator. But I’m concerned that the dry paper towel has become too wet. It was perfectly dry when I put it in there last night, but now it’s damp. Is that okay?
@WeldonTanks
@WeldonTanks 3 жыл бұрын
I am glad you found this video helpful! I would not be to concerned with the top paper towel being damp. That will help with humidity in the container. If it does get to wet you can replace it with another dry paper towel. Just as long as it is not soaking the clutch I think you will have a good hatch rate.

One of our two Mystery females laid her first clutch during the night before last. The solo male has spent the last couple of days on the run - literally! 😂 Anyway, THANK you for this video. I'd planned to let the clutch stay (behind the filter box) but noticed 1, then 2 then 3 baby baby ramshorns today 😮 Probably from the store bought hairgrass added a couple of weeks ago🤦‍♀️ Not sure if it was my imagination or wonky phone pics, but the clutch seemed a tad smaller tonight so I went for an extraction, Wel-Don style. Just in case 🤞 btw, I used a piece of damp paper towel to 'scoop&drag' the eggs along and off the glass, no losses. Stoked!!! Looking forward to the next phase. Thanks again. Go well 🇦🇺🙃👍

I still have the clutch attached to the reed it was stuck to. Do I need the dry paper towel, or can I just put the reed across the container off of the wet paper towels? Also, why do you remove yours from the aquarium wall? Won't they exit and grow naturally? How dry is too dry to try and hatch the clutch? I found one this morning and it is pretty dry on the outside -- I assume the inside eggs are still viable but I'm not sure. Also, I'm doing a dry start grow right now so I put the clutch in a container (setup as you suggested) without a lid and put it in there. I'm hoping that's enough humidity to test this out.
@WeldonTanks
@WeldonTanks 3 жыл бұрын
The outside of the clutches always feel dry, as you do not want it wet. The humidity helps soften the clutch so the babies can chew there way through. I think having it in that high of humidity with the dry start may work

Hi I've seen you understand this whole thing Do you know what can be done if a snail in a container lays eggs and then the snails are small enough to escape through the air holes?
@WeldonTanks
@WeldonTanks 3 жыл бұрын
I only use the containers to hatch clutches of eggs not to let the snail lay in the container. If that did happen you can move the clutch to a different incubator and put the snail into a tank. as for the babies escaping the holes you can make smaller holes with a pin instead of a nail. I like to hatch the clutch into a small breeder box once I can see the snails are hatching

Woke up this morning to a snail outside my tank and eggs on my filter. Was able to follow this and save them but my snail 🐌 didn't make it 😢 now I have my water level lower so they can leave eggs in the tank

I have a question!! I just started trying out your method today, and already the top napkins are just the tiniest bit damp. I did wring out the bottom napkins. Is that ok? Should I replace the top layer?

You can create your own frozen foods and include calcium powder in the mix.

Hey, I’ve had my snails clutch hatch a couple weeks ago, one of the babies seem to have a flat/inverted spiral, that’s the best way I can describe it. Instead of the spiral poking outwards it’s just flat. It’s also a clear shell but the other babies have developed color. I know it’s probably not common but I just want to know if it had happened to someone else?? First time snail mom!

First congrats on the clutch and baby snails! It is a fun time. I have not seen that before personally, could be as simple as a birth defect. The clear shell my first thought would lack of calcium but as it is only one probably is not the root cause.

Our mystery snail has laid 2 clutches within the past 2 weeks or so.... the latter being laid a day and half ago.... the first clutch I did as you said... although I'm not seeing any progress.... the second I've placed in a container with the wet paper towel and placed the clutch on some Styrofoam? I hope it works I would love to have a successful clutch hatch!

I had clutches take between 5-14 days roughly. I know the humidity can play a part

This is such a helpful video! I have one question though, if you couldn't support/didn't have room for a full clutch, could you cut it in half?
@WeldonTanks
@WeldonTanks 4 жыл бұрын
I am glad it helped! My concern is if you cut the clutch in half you will compromise the entire clutch. I did have some break as I was removing them and the clutch did not hatch.

Wel-Don Tanks Ah, I see. Do you have any tips of removing a clutch without damaging some of the eggs? Ive got about 300 or so mystery eggs from my big lady this evening, haha.
@WeldonTanks
@WeldonTanks 4 жыл бұрын
After it has been laid give it 24 hours to harden a bit. From there gently push it off the glass with your fingers. A flat razor or card can also help you lift the clutch off the glass.

If you have no problem with the baby snails going into your tank where the eggs are can just leave them in there and they'll crawl out of the egg sca to the water been doing it for awhile now
