Very nice looking yard, tip i would give you is to let your yard grow out a little so it is not as manicured but still maintained is a nicer look that will make you not look as crazy obsessed to your yard, trust me your neighbors notice people like this and think weirdly of them , just being honest, otherwise i understand this is what your channel is about so it is a pass.

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

A guy I worked with showed me a really good way to do around a tree etc.. press the guard up against the tree and walk around the tree with it rubbing on the tree. That way you know the line will never reach the tree. No need for the pepsi bottle. If you miss any whispy bits etc, just use tiny amount of throttle to clean up at the end.

I do landscaping professionally and getting a clean edge on beds is crucial!! Especially on pine straw beds!! Also, To make it easier on edging with a string trimmer, don't run your trimmer at full throttle. Keep it about half or three quarters and it doesn't grab as bad. Good tips tho!

My father did lawns using a "Japanese" style in Beverly Hills, San Marino, Pasadena, and a few other places. In those days no line trimmers existed. He used a power edger with the same or better results, but only when the owners were not at home. Instead of a leaf blower, which also did not exist, he used a yard vac. No blowing, just sucking. Mostly, any clippings left around were meticulously raked with a bamboo rake, until later, when modern tech produced the "Flex Rake." For the most part power equipment was frowned upon and he often resorted to hand shears. As a child I was often forced to go with him but I was more interested in swimming after coy fish or sitting under maple trees watching insects. My father did not use pesticides.

I like to use a spade for the first edge every season and maintain them with string trimmer every week or two. In business that's not always possible but for regular mowing accounts it's quick and simple. Customers love the care and attention to detail! I do love the "soda bottle hack" and think I'll give it a shot but perhaps with some slightly heavier corrugated plastic tubing since I run .095 and .105 trimmer line most often. Thanks all the same, tubing and velcro are cheap. On tool storage, that's sweet!

He's not actually walking backwards he's walking side ways. I've been in the lawn business for years and have been trimming edges like this, but I actually walk backwards while doing it. My customers always ask me how I do it without running into anything? Well if you've done the same yards over and over again throughout the years you basically learn where things are. One of my customers was watching me one time and swore I was going to back into a tree that was close to the edge while edging when all a sudden I veered around it going backwards and kept going. She told me I had eyes in the back of my head. Actually I have run into things before, things like lawn furniture, cars, children's toys and etc., things not normally there.

We recently bought the 525 from lowes for 300$ and it works pretty well. The way you string the caps for husqvarna is by far the easiest and smoothest. thanks

With a driveway or sidewalk you’ll get a cleaner edge with an actual edger (attachment or real thing). The trick is to get the blade nice and deep so you cut into the soil. After that, use a blower a high speed to clear the groove you just cut. After the first time it gets a lot easier. This among other things got me HOA yard of the month several months in a row, and several other times until I moved.

If you are however over using a shovel with practice you can get good edges on drive ways curb lines and walkways just don't expect it after day 1, when using a trimmer you'll have to chip away at it gradually , in order to keep your edges straight and not have wobbles, and to slowly cut through the dirt that is under the over grown grass patches. Patience, and persistence is the key just keep at it each week your edging will get better and your drive way will become clearer. But yes a power edger is deffinatly the way to go for immediate professional results.

Gorgeous work! You’re more consciencious than any landscape company I’ve ever hired for my yard. Most just want to rip through the job and check the box that the address was mowed and weedwacked. Getting any of them to do the job right can be a delicate negotiation, and I’ve weathered my share of ‘retaliation.’ That includes a crew that refused to keep their heavy equipment off my hardscape despite my complaints - the final straw were the two black rubber figure 8s they deliberately made on my bluestone. Another company mowed my lawn down to the dirt and erosion started. It cost me thousands to fix. This year, I contracted with a new company, and made sure my requirements were written into it. It includes never mowing shorter than 4”. If they screw up more than once, they, too, are outta here. So far, almost good as gold. Fingers crossed.

I recommend Dewalt, they make a string trimmer and blower that work awesome.

That’s not true… He gave you the short version.. His garden bed was already edge out with an edge over the years and he maintained them… So it’s easier to grab a weed wacker and just do it… Let’s say the average person bed have never been edge before then that person gotta edge it out first then come back with the weed wacker to tighten it up.. it’s pretty simply… As long as your edges are 12-6 from top to bottom then all you have to do is just tip the grass that’s hanging over… Nothing major… My edges are sharper than that!!! Nevertheless he got some good tips for beginners!!!

I bought a super nice toro edger at a garage sale for $40 that out performs any string trimmer edge. It's from the 80s I think with a Suzuki engine. My neighbors all use it too. It's literally a Rolls-Royce of edgers.

Pretty sad the current man can’t wind cord on a trimmer.

Or pretty awesome that someone recognized a crappy product design and came up with something much better. I’m all for practicing man skills, but there’s a reason I use a lawnmower instead of a scythe.

I started using an old fashioned non-electric edger along the sidewalk last year, like my dad and brothers did while I was growing up. I'm 64 and it's pretty easy, still.

I was trying to do this last night but try as I may trimming from a wheelchair sucks. I have an Echo straight shaft trimmer and a small lightweight battery trimmer. I might try to fabricate a skid for the Echo to help control it.

The small battery unit will be more adaptable and lighter, the idea of a guide would definitely work. If you could attach a small wheel with a bracket, even like a training wheel you would be able to control it with one hand and a lot less force. Thanks for watching.

I use a three wheeled trimmer even on the beds. Little tricky to maneuver but once you get the hang of it does an awesome job

FYI, I have a Ryobi string trimmer and it has the head that you are supposed to be able to install the line and wind it just like the Echo. It was still a pain in the ass. I just got the Echo head installed yesterday and I'm so glad I did. it's much easier to install line with.
