I tried out this breathing technique (5 sek in and then out) last week before I had to go talk to my Boss. My heart was literally racing and I was sitting alone in my office so I thought why not try it out. Didn't really think it would work... The effect was amazing! Within a really short time I could feel my heart slowing down. That was a real WOW- effect!

When I was in hospital they had to take the heart monitor beepy machine out it was causing too much anxiety I was having panic attacks as I was paying too much attention, I couldnt stop shaking and then it was even worse because I could hear my heart beat faster. Im so glad I found your channel I have learned so much in only a couple of videos and not just medically. Your patients are very lucky to have you as the person treating them!

I’ve been watching your videos for the last several weeks after stumbling upon your account. I’ve had anesthesia/ sedation ~7 times and I’m never afraid of the anesthesia per se but more the needles. Not sure why because I’ve had countless blood draws and pricks at this point. Your videos have really helped me with my mindset and just knowledge of how it all works helps take the anxiety away. I love the HOW even more, I love you care about all aspects of care being an integrative doctor. My last anesthesia a few days ago was the most calm, peaceful one yet. I’m in Italy where bedside manner doesn’t exist but I was able to tune into my own state of being and enjoy the ride. Thank you!

I am so grateful for these inspiring videos. I know that a human body can heal much more than is assumed. I have this experience myself. I have a rheumatic systemic disease, and after each exacerbation I subconsciously feel that there is hope for recovery. And that happens again and again! Despite the fact that the doctors in my own country have let me walk for almost 10 years, without care, without medication. Medicine in the Netherlands is really very bad! Now that I have finally been taken seriously abroad, partly due to the visible damage, I manage to get through all the tough examinations, making extensive use of the breathing techniques from previous videos. I am very grateful for that! I can proudly say that I learned that from a Stanford/Harvard trained anesthesiologist! I have seen enough examples to know that a human body can work miracles, provided that your mind and subconscious fully believe in it, and rely on it. And sometimes medical support is needed to create peace, which is a better basis for a road to recovery.

So how do we let our Anesthesiologist know that we may be dealing with fears and anxiety without prophecizing our outcomes prior to and after the surgery? Do we just keep these things to ourselves and not tell you? Or do you want to know? I'm trying to make a list of that I can take into my next spinal surgery. So far I have: 1. Ask to hold your own oxygen mask (I always feel like I'm being suffocated and have lost control when it is held tightly over my mouth -- childhood trauma) 2. Ask for someone to hold my hand when I'm still awake until I go under. 3. Frontload the surgery with positive thoughts of a positive outcome. I'll keep watching and adding to my list as you add new content and as I travel back through your blogs.

Where I'm confused about this is I do these behaviors because I am advocating for myself. But others dismiss it as being negative and I think that's totally unfair. When I'm optimistic, I wind up losing out in the end based on past experiences. So I use that knowledge to prepare myself for the future.

I understand what you’re saying about causing yourself more pain or nausea by focusing on it, but can you speak to the benefit of realistic expectations as well? I was told I wouldn’t have any pain when I woke up from my procedure and was caught off guard by a significant amount off pain which I think I might have handled better had I been expecting it. Is there a nice middle ground, and how do I incorporate the team into helping me achieve that? I’m hopefully 6 weeks out from colon surgery but my ulcerative colitis gastroenterologist quit, and pre-op anesthesia seemed leery of the fact I’ve started using ibuprofen unsupervised 😢

I love that you use your body to teach us things, it's so cool. did you know that the things you teach on your channel are often the exact things we learn in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy? I did four months of residential DBT five years ago when I was at my rock bottom. it's so cool seeing how those things which were written into my synapses play out in the body in real time. keep up the awesome work. I'm sending you some fan art. 😊

The only thing I can say is - stay away from negative people because negativity is contagious, I remember the story of a woman that got cured from cancer just watching comedy movies and TV shows like the 3 stooges - I remember that story on TV back in the 1990s it should be somewhere on the internet or KZbin, just try learning to funny jokes that will make you cry from laughing and after your done you feel very good.

Are you saying that when you put a patient under, you can tell if they have ptsd or not? Do you tell them? (a patient may not even be aware themselves. Conversely, many people think they have ptsd and they dont) What ARE the indicators while under that reveal that a patient has ptsd?

Don’t you think that sometimes our subconscious makes better decisions (thanks to millions of years of evolution and also lot of unconscious learning) than our conscious mind? At these times one needs to let it take over instead of trying to have conscious control which might only end up causing more damage…
