Thanks for the heatwave tips. Did you ever do an update video on the direct winter sowing you did last spring under cloches on your new plot? Did you do the same this year? I’m thinking of trying that with a select few plants next year. The past couple of years I have struggled with transplants from winter sowing because of pesky squirrels digging up my plants. The squirrels just go crazy for any disturbed soil. I cover everything with cloches or chicken wire but we have giant mutant squirrels in our city that seem to chew and claw through everything. I thought they might not bother as much if the plants aren’t transplanted. Any thoughts? The squirrels don’t bother anything that is direct sown if I cover the soil for a couple of days while the seeds are germinating and let the soil settle.

It happens. You can mulch over the ground as an alternative too.
