Thankyou Paul Wilson! I have watched so many KZbin golf tips that just don’t resonate with me / too complicated or miss the big picture / but listening and watching you have been transformative - keep things simple and relaxed! Your straight talking is brilliant. Wish I could come to Vegas for a real life lesson 😍 Tim from Australia.

Absolutely 100% agree, from a scoring perspective. If you knew you were drawing/hooking the ball nearly every time (preferably a high draw so it won't run too much on approach shots to the greens) , you could put a decent score on the card. In my 20s and 30s I played low running draws all day long. Lots of fun, scored in the lows 90s and high 80s often playing that way. The big disadvantage was deciding whether to run it off the back of the green or into a green side bunker to get it to stop. But it forced me to get a lot better at my short game. At one point I was a 4 handicap. My best round playing that way was 74 on 7000 yard course.

Paul watch you 1 1/2 years ago tried your swing, and went away to old school stile , maybe if your in your 20 30 40 they may work. But I'm 73 now and for the last month i read and try to do your way. After hours of practice 1000 balls and this video your best in my opinion. I swing with nothing but belt buckle to the target and loose wrists. Never trying to hit the ball. What can i say you know your stuff. Now next 1000 balls over and over practice, practice thank you.

My tendency usually is to slice and go over the top. This helped a lot! At first, I was scared to try and roll hands over so early. But in reality, Paul's 100% right. It's the right enough time. I found I then was hooking a bit but it's really not that hard to then straighten out the shots from there. Just dial it back a bit and think inside out.

Very good. You are figuring it out. So simple.
@aaajjworm

Yep! I'm finally hooking it consistently! When i really go for it, i slice because my hands/arms get stuck behind my body and are late, leaving the face open. If i stay within myself, thinking about releasing the club (actually swinging) great things happen!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Very good. You don't need to go for it. As you see this ends up in disaster. Stick to a level you can handle. Keep thinking of the release until you are rarely every hit slice spin. At this point you have this mastered. Then you are only thinking body in the future. Keep at it.

Here’s an interesting story. I’ve been a customer of yours for a little bit and slowly have been cleaning my game up but hadn’t seen the jump in the score yet. So, I injured my left knee pretty good, it’s very sore and tender and I also injured my pointer finger on my right hand (I played the round with my index finger not even on the club). So, of course I played golf! With the injuries I was forced to really let up on the swings and just be light and loose, just to avoid pain. The result was my beating my last round by 11 strokes. And I didn’t lose a single yard on any of my clubs. Now, you’ve been saying this for a while but it was interesting to see the results when I had absolutely no choice but to be loose and let up a little on the swings.

You are not alone. I have heard this before. Just proves you do not and should not be swinging hard. Now, do you think you can keep swinging at this pace once you are better? Keep at it.

Exactly. I've been getting unreal results for now 33 years. Just need to see it differently. Divide the swing in half. Spin and direction. Get one then get the other instead of trying to get everything which will never work as you see by few people every improving.

@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Glad you are doing well. If you have the distance this is half the battle. The consistency will come. Need to not hit or help the shot with the arms. Just let the club swings wherever it wants. Also, see the body as a spring. You coil the shoulders which coils the spring. Then you uncoil from the bottom up. A spring repeats 100% of the time so basing your swing on this coiling and uncoiling should get you hitting amazingly consistent. Visualize it and it should become clear what you need to do.

Great tip! Going to try to stick with the plan. I usually get through a bunch of holes, 60 to 70% swing, nice drives and irons, then see a long fairway and swing hard or try to steer the ball, slice, or come over the top,over correct and there you have it….throw away 8 or 10 strokes, and Im above 90.

So stop. Obviously hitting hard doesn't work. So try a full round swinging at this level. Once you do you gain confidence. Confidence breeds distance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6WpmJqDe8-npMk

I'm a huge fan of your methods, Paul. WHEN I relax my arms, I can do great things. I'm my own worst enemy and really struggle with being able to relax. I've tried so many things and now that we're back in golf season, I feel like I'm starting all over. It's a head thing more than anything. I don't know if you have any tips, but I'd love to conquer this "golf anxiety", or whatever it is.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
So start off at 50%. You know looser is better than harder. So every shot you hit swing at that level. You are getting more power with the legs and hips not the arms. So stick to 50% think hit the fairway NOT 250 in the fairway. Keep hitting fairways and greens you get confident. At this point you will naturally start getting more power.
@karenpaul7891
@karenpaul7891 Жыл бұрын
@@paulwilsongolf thanks! I've definitely seen the value of trying to think differently. If I tell myself I'm just trying to hit the ball 75 yards down the fairway, rather than getting it on a green or up a hill or over water, the tension (generally) dissipates and my swing is relaxed. You're one of my go-to's when my game needs help, Paul. Thanks for all you do!

Hi Mr Wilson. Going back to a previous video that I just saw again called "Copy Kids to Learn the Golf Swing" I have a question. The kids you reference with no strength, don't care about all the positions we are taught in the golf swing. They just do what you demonstrated. I see it at the range all the time. If I swing just like you demonstrated in the bucket challenge (it really works btw) why can't I just do that all the time and not worry about all the other positions in the swing? Let the arm bend on the backswing etc. The other thing that video taught me is I'm still too tight and I thought I was pretty loose armed. I think it's one of your best videos. Thank you!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You need to keep doing it until you know no other way to swing. 1 bucket is great. A month or two would be better to get rid of the old swing. Once you get it then tidy it up with perfect positioning later.

Just keep it simple. Neutral grip and set up. You have the arm unit hinging and rehinging. You work on this until you can get every ball hooking. This is 10 mins. The you switch to your body which coils and uncoils. This affects direction. So once you feel you can hook about 10 in a row you switch to body. Hit the top and fire the lower body first. If so, the arms follow shallowing the club and you hit it dead straight. wrist release/snap/roll over kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2mZaYSpidF6qpY kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmXZcoajhN-ehsk kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF7ReIBsrrNqb5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3mop2p9br9oY5I The body: Most popular trigger: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJXTmaeeeLZsjK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIebpoaQZpt1r9U

That would not be a flip that would be scooping it. You are adding loft and hitting it right so the face is open adding even more loft. You need to roll it form the top and get it hooking. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHa6lmx9ltSkrtE kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4WvgoqAgbd0i5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX65pGmJj7N1f7M Once you can do that you add body to straighten it out.

@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Depends. If you are trying to draw it a little lateral gets your body tilting more in the downswing creating the path from the inside. I don't usually tell people to bump. The chicken wing is you hitting with the arms. This is tightening your wrists which buckles the arm. Do this drill for 30 days and it should be gone: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZesfmV9jM9sedU I have tons of other chicken wing tips on the channel but tight wrists is the cause.

I've seen this quite a few times in the past. Usually from people who are smaller stature. This is the only way they can generate power. How big are you? If you are jumping you are not turning so I would be adding rotation.

As u turn wrist when do u turn hips?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You get it hooking first (with a neutral grip). That is step 1. Then you switch to firing the hips. This means you hit the top and think legs and hips. Just do it with your belt buckle. Arms will follow then you hit it straight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJXTmaeeeLZsjK8

Please clarify when i release my wrist in downswing? It is at right hip early or left hip which is late?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You are releasing from the top until you hook every ball. Once you can do that you have half right. You have the SPIN. Then you remember this feeling of releasing the club as you switch to firing your body. Body affects DIRECTION. So you keep firing harder and harder you you hit it straight. This is how it work. Watch your ball and it will tell you what to do.

I wish I could hit a fade. Saw your video on why a fade is better and I believe you. I’m a good hooker. 😂. Would like to play a fade especially with driver. Would it be possible to do another video on that? I’ve tried to do the opposite of what you say here and hold the release but that doesn’t seem to work. Thank you.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Fading is easy. Aim the face at the target. Aim your body left. Swing left. If you have hit a real draw swinging inside out then it will be harder for you. As you aim and swing left your path is inside out so typically this person will hit a push fade (Freddy Couples). It can work too but you need to aim more left to get the shot starting left. Just put down an alignment stick square to your target line. Then another well left. Set the face as square as you can to the first stick. Swing on the second. Just keep experimenting until you find what works for your swing. Don't hold off the fade. Release the club.
