Fantastic video, thank you so much! I've really been struggling with balancing as I am an absolute beginner but this genuinely got me over the hump - I feel like I'm making progress again.

I don't know why I've never thought to adjust my footjoint before. I've always just aligned the rod to the middle of the keys, and I've always had trouble sliding my fingers on the keys. I also have relatively small hands, so I think positioning my footjoint more back would be a lot of help!

Really good advice! I think what's really key here is being able to play all around the midrange notes B, C, C#, D, D#, E and not have the flute moving around -- especially from C# to D.

I am an older player returning to playing after 15 years & I relearning and trying to pick up good habits. Your videos have been invaluable. This one and finding where to put my lips have helped. I followed these points to balance the flute and bring the flute to you. Thanks

Yay! So helpful. Returning to more daily practice lately--I do have a question: Could you do a video that would address muscle tension ? I'm not sure why muscles get tense in neck and upper back.

Welcome back! ❤ Thank you for this detailed video on how to hold the flute. I have been learning to play for about 3 months now, and I am experimenting with ways that make it easier for me to play. Some days seem better than others, but I continually try to remind myself to relax my hands and not be so tense. There was even tension on one side of my ribs, so I'm always trying to be conscious of what my body is telling me. I asked a flute teacher to check my posture and position. My comfort in playing has improved, but I would love that comfort to be more consistent. I would like to try some of these tools, such as the thumb port and finger port, but I am so nervous about damaging my flute. I've seen reviews on how some of these items can scratch up your flute or damage the rods. What are things I should look out for with materials or even brands that you would recommend?
@flutechannel Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Happy to be back! I would advise the Thumbport by solexa. I've had mine for years and hasn't marked or damaged my flute. So try that if you can. Try fluteworld, the flute specialist or most local music shop can order that one. Hope that helps!

Dear Emilie, thanks for flutelage tutelage, could you please make or reference a video explaining proper set up, my flute headpiece had the metal casing of a disposable lighter stuffed inside it which seems make a difference, I've noticed there's light paint sprayed under the top screw to indicate proper harmonic length of the screw piece, I'm still not sure how to set the cork etc correctly and imagine its the most important thing. I'm also curious about tail piece angle and how I never play with my right pinky down as advised online and it sounds better........ these questions aught to cost me several hundreds euro so again thanks for the great flutage tutelage 😇🫒

Hi Amelie! A long time ago, I watched many of your great videos as a help in learning about the piccolo! I just restored a beautiful, early flute and it sounds and functions beautifully. I am starting from square one! I am a trained tenor and in my retirement, I an trying to learn to play some instruments. It's flute time!😊 I am looking forward to watching your videos again! I will first say that my hands hurt! Lol! Anyway, Thank you for having these classes for beginners!

Hello, I am one of the new subscribers to your beautiful channel. Which flûte is better, Yamaha YFL 222 or 462? Thank you.
@flutechannel Жыл бұрын
well 462 is built to a more intermediate - pro model style, you will need to bring it to the shop for adjustments and light repairs after a year of playing. So keep that in mind. The 222 is the student/beginner model which is quite nice, but again is built for beginners. Hope that helps!

I have been studying flute at a music school for about 5 years now, and my teacher often says that the fingers on my right hand should "hang" from the flute. That is, they are quite tense and bendy for me, I don't even know how to fix this problem 🤷 by the way, thanks to everyone who decided to read this comment, I am 14 years old, so I think everything is still ahead, and sooner or later I will probably learn.. I will be very glad if someone can write how to solve this problem
