I grew up in Austin when Tom and Ben where at UT and they played at Morris Williams. They both remained true to their home town courses and fans. Yeah, remember playing at Hancock all day in the summer. Us kids would then putt for it for a nickle a hole while waiting for parents to come pick us up at the end of the day of 27 or 36 holes. Dicey when you might have only a spare two bits in your pocket.

Ben is a special person. In 1984, I bought the Ben Crenshaw (8802 clone) by Walter Hagen putter. Every once in awhile, I take it out to the course and use it. It's my connection to the past and I'll never get rid of it.

At the U of Maryland in the early 90’s, my golf coach (Fred Funk) told us to “putt like a 5 year old.” Meaning to think nothing of mechanics and only think of the one objective, which is to get THIS ball into THAT hole, period. I think that’s what Mr. Crenshaw eludes to here in the very first minute, when he said “when I putted my best, I thought of nothing. I thought of just getting the ball in the hole.”
