This is great! My mom has been having a tough time with my brother but she has learned to work with the schedule that works best for him. They have been focusing a lot on smaller intervals of new learning and introducing new lessons in smaller digestible bites ✨

That's perfect!! I love that she is adjusting to his way of learning. Time of day makes a huge difference. Each student I have has different times of day that they're most alert and engaged. I find that teens do really well in the evenings, like 5pm or later which is interesting.

Love the idea of leveraging our community whether it's friends or family to teach classes that they may enjoy or have expertise in. :)

Thanks!! Yes a lot of people find teaching very rewarding, and there is someone out there, perhaps retired or maybe out of work right now or in college, who would love to share their knowledge with kids.

So much respect for teachers! I have been keeping them on a certain schedule every weekday and its so rewarding when you teach them. something and they grasp it immediately.

Never thought about the option of having a friend or teacher teach them virtually for awhile. That's a great idea!

Yes! I've been an interim online "teacher" for some of my students, and it's been working out well. Especially when they're in accelerated classes and don't want to fall behind. Usually we can get a chapter ahead per week.

Forwarding to a friend of mine in NYC who is currently struggling with trying to balance it all including homeschooling. I thought that this was extremely insightful!

I don't have any kids, but I definitely understand the challenges that parents are facing. My girlfriend is a teacher and I know she's doing her best to reach out to her students and keep them engaged.

Yes everyone is doing their best, and the level of instruction varies school by school. Some of my students are getting instruction from teachers and others haven't received anything at all for the last 2 weeks. I think this is actually a good time for parents to be a little more involved because most students, especially those under 14, really need more attention and haven't reached the level of independent learning. They also have a much harder time focusing without someone there encouraging them. It's very easy for them to get distracted ;)

@@SharpCookie Those are some great points. I could definitely see how the younger kids need a little more attention and hands on approach.
@SharpCookie4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I've been doing all my tutoring sessions online now, and the younger kids really struggle with attention when I'm on the screen versus in person with them. I find that the older kids, like 16+, haven't been a problem at all, and my sessions are equally as productive online as when they're in person 😉 What grade does your girlfriend teach?

@@SharpCookie Totally makes sense, although with how tech savvy kids are these days, I'm a little surprised that the younger ones aren't better with the video chat :) My girlfriend teaches a self-contained K-3 special education class.

@@DrBradBodle I know! But it's really just a maturity thing. I notice they'll have their phones out more. They get more restless and move around more. It's just harder to get them to work while I'm teaching through a screen. I also can't do hands on games with them like I normally do where I'll throw a bean bag and quiz them on math skills for example.
