Thank you for this video. I’m in NJ and just starting my homeschool journey but we’re looking to perhaps move to PA. I became petrified when I read all the PA homeschool requirements! NJ is so lax. I suppose these requirements help you, as a teacher, stay on track. Any idea why some states are so much more strict than others?

Thank you so much for this. We are in NY now and unfortunately being pressured to move by a big company purchasing all the land around us. I thought NY was considered a difficult state but wow, PA has so much more to add. Maybe that's just my shot nerves talking though. This video helped calm me a bit thank you so much!

It sounds similar to homeschooling under Option 2 in SC where you have to do a course of study every year and submit it. We also have to keep a portfolio with attendance records and progress reports by semester. But we don’t have to hire an evaluator. However, SCAIHS (Option 2) sort of fulfills that role by providing input on the curriculum and methods chosen for the year and they evaluate both progress reports as well. I don’t mind the hands on though because they also have relationships with colleges and universities so I feel well prepared to give Katie what she needs to be college bound.

Currently my kids are in a private school, but we will be homeschooling once we move. Since it will be our first year homeschooling, will we need to submit all the paperwork by July 1?? Thank you!

Thank you very much , this was helpful . Just in the gather info stage right now . ( bare with me as i stumble over how to word this) Are there examples out there of how to word the intentions for each subject for the officials at the start of the year , that helps you know how to give yourself the most freedom to teach it through the yr. (Like , if I understand correctly so far as i research ) As One gives the school a list of what they will be (or how they will be) teaching each subject ...You can by the wording you use , make it easier or harder on yourselves . Especially if you've got a fussy district . lets see how can i say , like if you word your objectives ahead of the yr in broad terms allowing the child and parent they're choice as it unfolds . where as if you are too specific as you put it in writing , then you must prove you have done them specifically . Like painting yourself into a corner . I am sure HSLDA may give info , but wondered if there are family folks input out there that ya know of . P.S. love that wild oppositional hair ...occasionally I get a really red cork screw one stickin out of my black hair.

Thank you so much for this very informative video! I have a question for you. We will be moving to Pennsylvania (or New york, we havent decided yet) in late August of this year. We won't be residents of the state until we purchase a home and that could be later into September. Do you know, for people who just moved to the state, can you notify your school board of your intent to homeschool after August 1? They would not require folks who just moved ot the state to put their children in public school just because they missed that notification date, right? This is probably a silly question but Im moving from an area with zero homeschoool regulations (ontario Canada) to a place with very high and so its all new to me and very scary! But I so appreciate your video it has made the whole process seem a bit less daunting, but I am curious about hjow it works if you arrive into the state after the July or Aug due dates. Thank you and you have a great sense of humor, I laughed a lot! :) God bless!

I choose our Sd’s virtual school. It seems to be something that was literally thrown together. I’m starting to wonder if my daughter is going to even benefit from school this year. It is already the end of August. Is it to late for me to change my mind and start the homeschooling process? Ty for your time.

@@christinef.5515no. I use religious and philosophical exzemption. Basically I state that , I believe its unethical to inject dead animal matter and aborted babies into my children as well as viruses and undetectable bacteria which handwashing and proper nutrition and rest cures on its own. And I believe My God wouldn't want me to either. And thats it.

I feel like I’m going to cry. Ok now I am crying. I’ve read over the laws ten times and I’m still so confused. I’m going into 10th grade and I’m so so so confused. It says I have to do 180 days of instruction or 990 hours per year. Makes sense, one year equals 990 hours, right? I have to do four years of English. Four? What? 990 hours times four? For just English?!?!??!

You probably have talked about this before, but I have missed it. Why do you homeschool at all? Why put your self trough all that every day? This is not a judgemental comment, I am seriously wondering about this. In my country homeschool is not an option, school is mandatory by law, all the way to high school. It is also free and rather good. But even if we had a homeschool option, and if I didn't work, I doubt I would ever considered the option. You are a brave woman. Let me know your why's.

I found your channel because of your minimalist videos. And a really liked them. As a German (where homeschooling is illegal) I actually dont get why you would do it. In Germany I think the arguments are: A. You probably dont have the degree to teach + German teachers do have a bachlor in 2 degrees (for example math and Histoy) and a master in teaching and that's the only subjects they are allowed to teach B. I wouldn't feel confident enough in each subject to teach a child (primary school maybe but not really further) C. The main argument (I guess) is that the state does not trust you to teach the actual curriculum (basically meaning that they want you teach kid not true facts (flat earth, racism and so on)) D. I guess children interaction is part too So I'm just curious why you would choose homeschooling over regular school and if you plan on teaching them till they graduate high school?

Hi! Homeschooling is the best choice for our family at this time. We plan to homeschool as long as we need to. You don’t need it to homeschool in America, but my husband and I both have advanced degrees. We feel confident in our ability to teach them. Teachers are amazing but the school system is not.

I actually have an interesting story about this topic of Homeschooling. I pulled my mildly autistic son from Boston Public School after 2 full years, they start them at 3 when they have an extensive IEP, because I didn't feel that the school system was doing enough for him. This is Boston, MA, some of the best schools in the country, but still not really adaptive enough for mild autism. I live in a large apartment complex where there is a courtyard and we literally have a 50 kids that come out to play in the evenings. Boston is also a very transitional area of doctors and researchers and business folks, so we live here with people from all over the world. I had a few friends from Germany and they did not understand why I pulled my guy to homeschool either. They told me about it being illegal, but that is because of more so fear of any possible repeat of indoctrination of German youth than anything else she believed. I mean the history has made the German Government very hands off of your child rearing so why this fear of homeschooling right. Any who, over the years she became a die hard fan of my approach, and how amazingly my son has transformed and learned. The school was telling me that he may never read and they were giving up on teaching him his letters because he just could not write them. Though this journey has been extremely hard financially, and emotionally. I would trade to he results for anything. Most people would not even believe that my son had autism. He reads and writes and is a pretty amazing film editor. And even though we all homeschool for different reasons, I honestly believe that it is one of the best things that we can do for our children. Also, my kiddo socializes with tons of homeschool and schooled children so that is a non sequitur. I also hear that Germany's public schools are a full inclusiin model and that they are having a really hard time with the influx of Autistic children into their classrooms. Maybe it is time for them to relax this law against homeschooling a bit.
