@@sriley064 Well Art of Bowling is mostly directed towars the younger generation, I am sure... Don't think they mean for people of 30+ age to enjoy the singing bowling ball :P But it's a nice twist to the standard videos of one guy talking in a monotone voice about how you should handle a bowling ball. Imagine showing that to children/teenagers compared to this video!

Couple things: Your left handed bowler is bending the heck out of his elbow at 3:50 and probably doing so to be able to get hand under ball at release point. This video seems to assume a bowler may be able to cup their wrist into the release point to keep hand under ball, but they may not be able to do so with a straightened elbow.

Do the USBC rules allow throwing a bowling ball that has no holes? It works well for my league for spares but I have been unable to find out if it is legal in tournaments.
@goobytron2888 Жыл бұрын
I know this is old. But seems unanswered. You don’t have to have holes. But the ball must be marked in some way to show your hand orientation. So have to put your hand in the same place every release, for the same reason a bowler with holes has to use the holes. I don’t necessarily agree with it. But I think that as a ambidextrous person I should be allow to shoot 10 pins left handed and 7 pins right handed. It’s not an unnatural ability and anyone could train to do it.

Having bowled in league for 40 years this is my theory of hooking - you buy hook in the pro shop and then all you have to do is roll it in the right direction with the right speed. In the old days balls barely hooked and you had to stand on the right and throw it towards the pocket. If you pulled it and crossed over you could leave the dreaded spare, the 1-3-6-8-10, which never happens today. Now balls have an offset weight block that forces the ball to hook when it rolls. Now instead of throwing the ball leftward, we throw the ball to the right or straight and watch it turn left. You don't have to do anything fancy like wrist snapping. All you have to do is get yourself a fingertip drilled bowling ball (not an alley ball), keep your hand behind the ball, don't break your wrist (knuckles not behind forearm), and don't walk too fast, that will get you sufficient dependable hook.

I found for me to do that release if to focus on cuping the ball right before I let it go keeping a lose arm swing the whole time if you are decent at getting your thumb out of the ball before your fingers u will naturally uncup to let it go just focus on cupping right before the ball gets past your ankle

@ArtOfBowling5 жыл бұрын
This is tough to learn, it can be done though. The release trainer really helps
@MartinOcando5 жыл бұрын
Might be that your thumb hole is too big, and you are gripping the ball. The key is to free your hand of any gripping force. Completely relaxed. Then you'll be able to get it out super fast. If your ball falls out of your hand, use bowling tape to stop it. I'm in a very humid place, so in my case is the opposite. My thumb tends to get stuck, so I started using Storm protecting tape and works like magic. Highly recommended if you have that kind of issues.

House bowling balls hook and roll easier than the finger tip gripped balls by far. In fact, a simple exercise that gets a bowler to clear thumb is a one step drill using house conventional grip ball. The ball will only hook and roll when the bowler relaxes the grip putting thumb then fingers letting go of the ball.
