USBC director of coaching Stephen Padilla goes through the many aspects of the release and how you can alter it to generate your desired ball motion.
Stephen talks about different hand positions, axis tilt and axis rotation and loft and how all those things can be used on their own or in various combinations to get your bowling ball to do what you want on the lane.

Finally someone that explains it more in detail. Never thought about loft being another technique to try. THANKS!

I really like the in depth explanations you offer, but would like them shown in action (video samples) rather than me trying to picture it in my mind. I am a visual learner, and showing more examples while you are explaining would be most beneficial to learners like me. Thanks for your willingness to teach us to become better at a sport we enjoy.

These are really very specific tips, well explained, thank you. Some years back you gave us a training in Florida glad to see you are ok.

Really enjoyed this video. A lot of theory which is not always obvious when "throwing a ball down the lane". You certainly have great experience, so thanks for sharing that!

Being that most folks are visual learners, you might consider "showing" WHILE "telling" us about release/control tips.

Valuable information but would have been infinitely more so if someone was actually demonstrating these releases in super slow motion.

Good video but you have to show examples. We need to see the reaction of the ball with different throws. Thanks.

Appreciate your explanation, but would like to see a demo on each part of the explanation so that bowlers can see how the ball roll down lanes. Too much talking confuses learners.

Remember that this video is probably aimed at pro-am style bowlers, and is therefore more theoretical. There are lots of other YT channels offering more fundamental advice and video tips. I'm not pro (or even a good bowler!) but I personally gained some great information from this video.

Just been working on lofting. Not Lobbing the ball in a upward. You want it to glide or float right over the lanes and touch down soft around the arrows or just behind. Every foot of the lane you skip the ball touching is only going more distance before your ball touches the lane. Then it don't have to flare to much and you are in the pocket. when you don't loft the same ball you end up flaring More and go way brooklen. I am learning how to do a lot of these moves instead always rolling the same shot. Learning how to keep the elbow in and stay behind I keep it flat and in the oil...... I roll straight and flat almost straight. But I been carrying some great pin action. The more styles you have the better you br. Look up PBA legend Faro Williams. He has 100's of 3000 games and 100's more 800'sas well. He has a very cool style of his own and a great lofter.

Overall, I think consistency is absolutely key. I'm also trying to work on consistency in the basic release in order experiment with different techniques. Good luck to you!

@@arcadesunday4592 For sure that is the main thing about bowling. It is hard to adjust and make it work if your ball does something different every time you roll it.

To create more loft and stay behind the ball longer I move my eyes to a spot beyond the arrows.

so there was alot of great explanation but im slow and without a visual representation like actually throwing the ball and watching the motion then you could pause your video and explain why its taking the motion that you desired

axis tilt = ulnar deviation Its funny that "cupping" in bowling is wrist flexion, where in golf it's the complete opposite: extension. Also, the music pad is Daft Punk - Get Lucky.

I think in golf cupping of the wrist refers to the left wrist, not the right. Like Daft Punk too.

How are they able to just casually hold the ball like that. I can barely raise the ball using just my wrist so I use a thumbless bowling to help me hook. Using three fingers is too tough for me to hook with because I can’t raise the ball like that.

So lofting is a good thing then? I do exactly what you explained when it comes to lofting but my team tells me I won't get good ball reaction unless I lay the ball down but from what u just explained it can be done bery well

The more time on the lane the more motion you will see out of your ball! People use loft if the fronts are burned up or they are bowling on light oil (if the ball isn’t on the lane it can’t hook at your feet) it’s a good tool to have but I’d work on laying it down too! A versatile bowler is a good bowler! Gather as much knowledge as you can and know when to use these tools you will be successful! Good luck

People please observe THE Coach and hand position he is showing you, he is not showing with a bowling ball, you are missing the point, it's pretty much plain and simple, first of all you don't throw the ball you roll the ball, there's a lot of things that must come together to begin bowling good and great. Thanks Coach.

WAY too many words. The problem being for beginners they don't know what the hell you're talking about. They (Me) don't know the jargon and terminology of bowling technique. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. Why didn't you SHOW the different effects caused by the different hand/wrist/finger positions?
