Great video... just trawling all I can find online as I’m off for a first icy climb next week and this summarised everything I’ve encountered really well

For ergonomic offset handled ice tools, placing your thumb on the back of the handle as if cocking the hammer of a revolver really helps with precision of the swing! With the thumb wrapped around the tool, the pick won’t be as precise on every swing as with the thumb on the back! Try it out!

If you are not wearing blue dishwashing gloves, are you really ice climbing?

Could you show the propr technique to transition from steep ice to a ledge or lower angle terrain ? Something like : _ _ _ _ _ / | | |

Ya, I’ll do a video on that soon, that’s sort of part of the advance climbing technique video I’m planning. The only problem is my ice climbing season is over so I won’t be able to get to that video until next year, but it’s still on the list!

You should watch Will Gadd's Black Diamond video on proper technique.
