Good idea. (Might be good to keep the chains etc lightly oiled or vaselined to stop them stiffening up after use, storage etc.) A good hardware store that sells individual items like these is to be respected and supported! Best wishes from Sussex

Sweeeeeeet... Thanks for the insight! Now, i just need to move out of California to somewhere that I can have a fire... At the moment we can't even light propane in a designated campground. Fortunately, we do still have SOME forests left. For now... Love the scenery - particularly that ancient-looking rock wall between the roots of that gnarled tree.

@@IsleofWightBushcraft I have one and most of the time I do not use all the legs. One side or one corner may be on a rock, sometimes both sides are on rocks with no legs used. Yes your design works but i'd rather use bushcraft. No rock around, use logs with bark on or invert and suspend with wire if logs are not available.
@IsleofWightBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
That’s fine for you, I respect your freedom to choose for yourself the way which you prefer, as I’m sure you respect my freedom to choose the way I would like to use it. As for your argument that using chains is not bushcraft, one could argue that using the griddle itself is not bushcraft, afterall , like the chains, it too has been made from metal, fabricated at a factory, not from natural materials from the forest, so hardly constitutes bushcraft. Using a knife, and not a knapped flint blade, could also be said not to be bushcraft, I mean how far do you want to take it. By your argument, you could not use anything, unless fashioned from the natural materials to hand, which really is just a little bit silly. I’m afraid we,ll have to agree to disagree on this count.
@kenkorpa93143 жыл бұрын
@@IsleofWightBushcraft 99% of the time you are fine without bracing and t hat 1% you can batten down the grill like a tarp if you feel the legs may give out which they won't if you are cooking for a couple and there are no other means at hand then as I said earlier this is your solution. Do you really want to carry excess for that less than 1%. Silly eh....

Looks like a dangerous trip hazard in the most dangerous area of your camp, if it could be changed so that the grid is stabilised without the chains spreading out from the grill then it would be useful.
@IsleofWightBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
Works really well for me. You’d have to be on top of fire to trip, there are far worse trip hazards in the forests and woods

Personally........ Not keen!! Accidently catch one of those chains with your foot or a piece of firewood and you'll be dragging boiling water or food all over your leg! 🤕
