Hahaha. I've totally been there! I would just make a new house and move them over, one by one, rather than tearing the house down and making them homeless. More work, but less risk of losing them!

Had no idea the insulation was a factor thank you. I also relized my self if you randomly move your villagers it makes them unhappy. For example i wanted to move my wife and i and a few villagers to one of my expansions closers to the river and the hunting cabin where my wife works and my wifes mood dropped by 15 but when back up when i moved her back. I figured moving her closer to work would be better but nope haha

Thank you so much!! And that's so odd! Hahaha. There could be a number of reasons why her mood dropped. Even being briefly homeless might have done the deed. And if the new house lacks the same features as the original house, then that might make her drop her mood. Wives be picky!

@@survivalgameguide you're welcome also have another question if i wanted to tear down my town now and rebuild it more neatly will i know my people will be upset with no homes but how long do i have before they just up and leave. Lol if i have all the mats i can probably get it done in a few hours cause i know what im doing now. Can i do it with out them leaving?

@@thecanadian497 I wouldn't risk it, myself. Like you usually have time to build one house if you do it immediately while they're homeless. But if everyone is homeless at the same time, I think they'll probably leave before you can get them in their new houses. Their mood drops pretty gosh darn quick!

@@survivalgameguide i see your point but then again if i already got all the mats. I got over 5k logs rocks sticks straw and 2k limestone. Techically in theory if i didnt care if my villagers left then i could tear it down and restart and just get them back. Like i said im theory. Lol i just wanted to make it nicer and more curb appeal ya know. I have 40 people but i can get em back whats your opinion i know you said you wouldnt risk it. But if you had all the mats to get started again would You?

@@thecanadian497 Yeah! I mean if you don't mind potentially losing some villagers, I say go for it! You can always recruit new ones! I'd just be mindful of those special NPCs that have really high skills. Try to keep those if you can, if you have any. Otherwise, go for it! Make your village what you want it to be!

Shutters count as decorations also. So does fur rugs. Up to 10 decorations for effect. After that it's just for appearance.

House size and material mater

From what I have read, house size matters only in the sense that it needs to have enough beds for them to have two children. Material definitely matters though!!

It should be! As long as you don't change certain things like their housing, the insulation, etc., that should stay the same. For special events like seasonal events that sometimes boost mood, those last for the season, but then they're gone by the next season.

Its a shame that the devs changed the housing rules so that you can’t put people of the same gender in the same house! The houses have at least two beds so It seems absurd that homeless people expect a house each! It does slow progress though and that might be the point of it, to slow the game and make the player consolidate a little? 🤷‍♀️

I wish you could bunk people of the same gender together, too! I don't always want them having kids so early in the game. But you're probably right! Gives you just a bit more to do to eat up some time.
