Thank you for always sharing such amazing facts! Just FYI. If someone is struggling with insomnia they can just get more anxious when thinking about the harm of little sleep.

Exactly my thoughts too… the majority of the video is just about the terrible effects… only going to make our anxiety and sleep worse than before…

WHY is insomnia always spoken about as difficulty going to sleep. I have suffered from early waking insomnia for decades. I have zero trouble going to sleep, in fact I have great difficulty staying awake in the evening but I wake early and am lucky to get more than 5 hours sleep. I am tired all the time, my memory is shot, and at every turn I read how damaging not enough sleep is for your body and mental health. It's frustrating that this type of insomnia receives so little attention.

this sounds like a vitamin deficiency, try taking zinc. before bed i know ive had really bad rls and magnesium, b vitamins and iron really helped alleviate this. being low in these vitamins can also cause cognitive issues, it hought i had dementia for 2 years and restoring my iron and b vitamins mad a MASSIVE difference. also the drs told me my vitamin levels were fine, so if you still feel sick after they say that listen to your body. did you ever sleep 8 hrs?

Dr Seheult, thank you for the video. Can you comment on how effective is melatonin supplement for helping one stay asleep. Is the supplement as effective as the melatonin released by the pineal gland?

Thanks. I have a particular... well not a problem, but something that occurs often: after I get back from my evening walk, a brisk walk of 30 to 50 minutes, I wind down, look at KZbin or social media, then fall into an exhausted doze. I do wake up somewhat refreshed then have dinner, prepare for the night and do fall asleep. Obviously all this is not normal and probably not ideal, but is ok? I mean I manage, apparently the body needs that dose of sleep, then I get a night's sleep too though rather late (soon enough after hitting the bed though). I don't think I have health issues though I haven't had any tests done for years. I'm not overweight and am 64 years old. My instinct tells me to just go with this flow, snooze when the urge comes and carry on. Being retired and living alone this strange cycle doesn't affect anybody else. I'd be grateful for advice . Thanks.

I answered YES to almost everything in your questionnaire and I can sleep for 10h per day or 9 or 8 or 7 I've tried everything, and I will still feel the same. I do not snore, though I've not tested my AHI, but somehow my sleep quality sucks. I've tried sleep restriction therapy for quality and now I'm trying melatonin. Any ideas? (27yo btw)

Really unhelpful to spend so much time talking about all the bad effects of sleep deprivation… please remember who is watching videos like this: people who struggle sleeping. Hearing about all the terrible effects of not sleeping well, is only going to rise our anxiety and make us sleep even worse! Skip to 32:40 to actually hear about what you came here for: tips for sleeping better.

This is all great but if you have a problem in any single area here, it's not hard to see how the rest (no pun...) is all totally contradictory

I wish sleep was as simple as you describe. But when you have severe "restless leg syndrome" it doesn't matter how tired you are or what your melatonin is doing. TORTURE.

I have a different problem. I go to sleep early and wake up early. When I wake up I can hit the gym, go for a run, go to work. I can’t sleep later. But around 6-6:30 pm most days I work (I work 12 hour shifts) I get vertigo I am so ready to sleep. I rarely get it at home even at that time. I know mold at work is a factor. Right now I’m home, it’s 6:23 no vertigo will go to bed soon and fall asleep probably in an hour. My CR is offset probably due to growing up farming then working so many years but occasionally I would like to stay up late, sleep in and not have vertigo at work

I can easily fall asleep, I just can’t stay asleep all night & usually wake around 2 for at least 2-3 hrs. I was hoping he would address that..
