I really appreciate the explanations on the drills it is easier for my 12 year old to follow. This video in particular is something that will help him... one issue he has is finishing his swing low.
@JermaineCurtis553 жыл бұрын
Thank you Eric! I appreciate you for watching. And thanks for sharing it with your son. I like that you said it is easy to follow that's great to hear. As for finishing low, watch the Cody Bellinger Swing Breakdown...there is a drill in there that is called the full extension drill that I think will be good for him. Also, tell him to take his top hand and try and pat himself on his back. That usually gets my players to have the high finish. Let me know how it goes

100% correct in that you need to learn how to hit the ball to all fields and let it get deep BEFORE you learn to get out front. Too many kids learning the opposite way and struggle with late counts and off speed. Allows you to be confident enough with 2 strikes so that you can either wait on your pitch or try to jump early pitches in the zone 💯% great advice!

I literally just did the tee out front with my daughter last week. Something I just thought I’d try to work on her getting to extension better. I was looking for a video that explained it. I just found your video today. Now I feel better knowing that a pro does it.

1 year ago today I watched this video as a 12 year old who was barely reaching outfield on my tee swings, two weeks ago I just hit 4 homers in a row off the tee because of this video thanks a lot man. (I hit homers when I was twelve but they were usually barely gone and always because of pitching and exit velo because of the speed of the pitch never really because I was a power hitter, just the actual force of the bat hitting a ball that was headed 60 mph made the ball go far.)

Along with hittimg the ball out front l heard this from the guy who signed Dennis Eckersly he called it the 2 plate theory imagine a home plate in front of your lead foot where it lands then swing thru that l feel when l am hitting good l want that bat long thru the plate in frint of me Ken Griffey said that ok l like the mookie betys thing you point out yeah l want my top hand to drive the paddle glove or net thru the plate in front of me and turn my back hip into my front hip behind the extension love hitting the ball into my pull side gap. Man l been sayimg that one for uears drive long double drives into my pull side gap homeruns will happen but l love those double drives

Can someone clarify for me “ staying on the backside”. If you look at Mookies swing as he completes it his back foot is turned and he is up on the toes while his front side is strong and straight. I am not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand. A cue I have seen elsewhere is to load (shift weight to the back) stride and turn and as you finish you are balanced against a strong front side. Is that wrong?
@JermaineCurtis552 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, Yes, you are right. We are saying the same thing. If a hitter shifts all there weight to their front foot they will not be on their backside, they will be putting everything on there front side. This will also make their swing very choppy and inconsistent. By staying on their backside and turning against a firm frontside, the hitter can extend through the baseball and hit it on an upwards trajectory. Plus, a lot of other benefits such as being able to stay back on off speed, hit with more power, etc. Thanks again for watching Peter.

I don’t fully understand the point of not opening the front hip. Is it a matter of degree? By definition if the back side hip comes through the front hip opens. It has too. So is it s matter of opening too soon or over rotating?
@JermaineCurtis552 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, Yes, you don't want your front hip to open up too soon. Doing that would take you away from the baseball...making it very hard to hit the pitch away... and mess up your lower half. This is why they say hit the ball the other way because you will keep that front hip closed much longer...along with a lot of other benefits. Thanks for watching Peter.
@johnwilson63192 жыл бұрын
Ted Williams advocated hips and he was great but also threw right handed hit left and felt power hand was closest to sweet spot of bat so he had his he. Hips to lead but for a top hand hitter this could result on a spin out I would. think

I don't agree on hitting outfront is synonymous of hitting harder... it's depends on pitching location. For an outside pitch you have to let it travel. For me the closer to your body the better the contact. In fact when I use the batting tee, I use to make the contact closer than you do in video to get use to let the ball get into the strike zone. The more you can wait to swing, the less you're going to be foolish with breaking balls or off speed pitches.
@JermaineCurtis55 Жыл бұрын
You're right in that letting the ball get deeper will make for more solid contact.
