I like the Ted Williams reference. The hips help you get on plane with the pitch much easier than your hands do.

It is amazing how many little league coaches have no clue on how to hit or teach it. These are great tips, 1 coach on my team walked away when I started teaching them these same methods like I was incorrect. So many kids are being denied good coaches and it is a shame.

For hip rotation at 5:37 , why do the hips rotate to varying degrees depending on the ball location? Is that something you should give focus to, or is it just the byproduct of something else?

Thanks for the video. I have two boys 11, & 12, and we've been searching for some good way to figure out how to sequence parts of the swing. The front heel land to launch the hip turns is helpful. Never was sure whether we "fire the back leg first, or fire the hips first". Which was the chicken and which was the egg. Your answer was helpful. Neither. It starts up front. Who would have though that? Thanks again. Dan, David and Evan -- baseball lovers in Allen Texas

Lay a 2 x 4 behind your heels pointing out to the pitcher. Then take bucket after bucket off the tee to implement muscle memory and obviously not stepping on the 2 x 4. Pretty soon you'll forget all about it. Also, when you 'step in the bucket' all your friends and teammates think you're scared. Let that be part of your motivation. Good luck!

Can you make a video how to stop turning in your baseball swing like pulling off the ball
@lyannarivera53032 жыл бұрын
I like the explanation of kinetic explosion. Instead of squash the bug its smashing. Hitting the explosion button with ur front foot transferring the explosion to your back leg thrusting you hip to rotate and then smashing the ball.
@subzero3354 жыл бұрын
This video really helped me! When I was younger my grandpa always told me to squish the bug and that’s why I needed this video. Because if what my grandpa said I have been just spinning and not driving

God bless. EVERYTHING follows the hips. Keep the head down, shoulders square, release. Interestingly, throwing is no different.

Squash the bug helps with kids that rotate their hips but try to keep their back foot planted for balance. I've seen it dramatically help kids when used this way. If a kid is not actively using their hips then telling them to squash the bug is not the best method. I've found that telling them to snatch their belt buckle to 3rd base works better.

@jeremyanderson80084 жыл бұрын
If you are swinging correctly, your hips will actually lift your back foot off the ground. Check out any elite hitter and you will see this action. Driving your weight into a firm front side is the key to increasing your power.
@kharris370504 жыл бұрын
I know how to do this but someone just told me to watch this

Probably THE best advice you've provided for young players. But, the hips should rotate the same no matter what. The hands (base of bat towards ball) and barrel of bat follow. You should just watch the Ted Williams video, eg cock the hip, pull the hip, release. Baseball is all about getting on base.
