“It’s only too easy to get discouraged. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Everyone fails sometimes; some people just hide it better than others.
There is always a Plan B.
Perfection was never on the cards.
You’re allowed to cry uncontrollably sometimes.
Some people will love you always - whatever.
Those that matter don’t mind; those that mind don’t matter.
You could always go and live on an island somewhere far away - truly.
You have enough time to give this many more goes.
A fear is not a fact.
Every good life is a mess - in parts.
3 a.m. alone in bed is not the optimal moment at which to derive a true picture of reality. Wait - always - for the perspective of dawn.
The only people we can think of as without regrets are those we don’t yet know very well.
Going a bit mad for a time is a very common and ultimately very sane rite of passage.
It sounds heartless to say: ‘you’ll get over it’. But you will.
Most of what we think will kill us won’t.”

Another (paraphrased) quote I found useful: "Whenever you think you just can't bear it, you're wrong. You've already survived it. You are _still_ surviving it. You're just afraid of the pain continuing. But you've already demonstrated you can survive it. You have no need to be afraid. You've already conquered what you fear." Perhaps this won't apply to everyone. But I found it useful.

@@howtoadultschool Oh, but there's a sea of difference between the two versions. The "get over it" one says, "Buck up and stop feeling sorry for yourself," (ew) and the Sufi/Bible (wherever one believes it originated) version says, "These are the ways of the Universe for all of us; you will be ok." Much gentler and much more compassionate!
@Carmen-mp3je
@Carmen-mp3je 2 жыл бұрын
I really hate to hear that. I guess that people say it sometimes with a good intention but for me the “get over it” message behind it and the disrespectful way I’ve heard it makes me hate the phrase... what I really hate is this “rush” people have to make you be ok, when one has trouble we need patience and support and time...

@@Carmen-mp3je I totally agree. While ultimately true, it's a really unkind thing to say. It's a quickie way for the "comforter" to feel like they've been supportive, though does very little to actually soothe a person in pain. When I hear someone say it or something similar to, for example, a person who's had a breakup or divorce, it makes me cringe. I think, "For god's sake, it only been a few weeks. Give the person a minute! It's a loss, and regardless of whether they'll in the end be ok or even better, it feels really bad right now, and that is part of the process." I've always disliked the whole "feeling sorry for yourself" thing, too. It's so disrespectful.

This is a comparatively healthier view of resilience, I think. Normally "resilience" just means trying harder or becoming tougher through willpower. This video's approach is to increase resilience by sharing advice, and actually encouraging people to continue trying. It is a combination of resilience and motivation. Maybe the two are not as distinct as they are usually perceived.

I use introspection to answer the question, "What did I do for this to happen to me?" And I dont stop until I feel relatively good again, because I know in the end it was a bad choice on my part, and it will never happen again because I know what I did and the reasons for doing it. The bottom line is not what happened, but my perception of what happened that twists my view of reality out of shape. Once I can bring my perception back into alignment with reality, I am smarter and stronger...and life goes on once again.

Everyone encounters problems and challenges from time to time. The important thing is not to let these challenges bring you down. Building resilience means being able to overcome any challenge, build stronger relationships, foster meaningful change in your life and in the lives of those around you.

I teach myself not to hate what others hate, like Mondays and a long queue, I figure If I have to work on Mondays and I have to stay in the long queue, I might as well try to enjoy it. And that I try to apply in everything life offers, even death.
