Yes, the arms are a big part of range. You show shooting the ball from the belly area, but a long shot from 3 point range starts with the ball lowered to thigh area and then as you said, a smooth one motion from thigh to top of release. The speed of this action depends on how far you are from the basket. My point is, the action of the upward thrust of the legs is a big contributer to being able to keep good form with the arms and hand.

Great videos Dave! Love the all the details. I was wondering how to get my shot off quicker off the catch but more importantly off the dribble. Also, a righty going to the right is slower.

I know. As I said, that is as far as my arm extends. I have limited flexibility. So I am extending my arm as much as it extends.

Range in shooting a basketball comes from the legs. The arms, hands and release stay the same, but the legs provide the power for the shot. If you can't keep the correct mechanics, your shooting from to far out.

Unfortunately you are factually incorrect. Everything varies from shot to shot, including shots at the same distance. But if you want to see how much power the legs create, hold a ball in front of you with straight arms, don’t move your arms, and jump as high as you can with as big of a leg bend as you want. You likely won’t be able to get the ball more than 3 feet above your hand. But now stand with your legs straight, ball at your set point by your forehead and just lift your elbow and snap your wrist. You can get the ball 20ft in the air. Most of the power comes from your arm.
