Always thought that this was the quickest way to learn and increase hook but never saw a pro mention this idea until now. As a former bodybuilder, it only makes sense - especially if you are trying to strengthen the wrist and yo-yo release.

Just like in bodybuilding it can be difficult to perfect form and mechanics with full weights. This allows you to work on the feel of that strong wrist position and work up to full weights.

This is great but I would love to see a video on how to raise your rev rate while wearing a brace. I know it can be done because I have learned to double my rev rate with a brace. I would like to raise my rev rate even more

Braces definitely can assist in keeping your hand in a strong position but many of them lock your wrist in place so the level is somewhat predetermined. There are some braces that are adjustable and allow you to change the strength of the wrist position.

Can you guys make a video on any tips or drills to not move the ball in the first step on a five step approach.

Hello Coach, do you give personal lessons?

This is the first video I’ve seen that says you have to start with a light ball when working on this technique. Does that mean you need to have a strong wrist to Rev it up?

It does take some wrist strength to keep your hand i a strong position when holding 15-16 pounds. One other commenter brought up bodybuilding and this is much the same way. it's way easier to perfect your form and the feel of this hand position with a lighter weight and work your way up to full strenght/weights.

Do I roll the ball forward, or do I turn my wrist slightly as I release the ball 🤔?
@insidebowling17 сағат бұрын
In order to impart rotation on the ball it requires a slight turn of the wrist at the precise time during the release. One helpful way to get the feel of this is to practice throwing a spiral underhanded with a football. It will help you realize how the wrist has to rotate at release.

Mike's a busy guy but we'll have to tell him it's time to get some lessons in from Coach! 🤣

While it is interesting, i think if it worked as mentioned, we would see many bowlers raise their rev-rate without using elbow bend. It is the elbow bending that helps all those who have a natural high rev-rate, get under the ball. Show me someone's video before this training, and after, and if in both cases he uses no elbow bend but his rev-rate went up, then you have my attention. Because i agree neural pathways are important, but if you cant get under the ball by wrist alone due to not having enough strength, then there is a problem.

In order to maximize revs of course there are multiple keys. Loading and unloading with the elbow takes it to another level but this is targeted at helping a bowler concentrate on keeping that strong hand position and perfecting the form and feel of that position. Another comment mentioned bodybuilding and that's a great way to think of this drill. It's far easier to get the feel and perfect the form of a good lift with less weight on the bar before you work up towards your max.

@@insidebowling I totally agree on the principal of using lighter weight for some exercises. I just don't think that for this particular goal (higher rpm) it can be done by wrist cupping alone. And if it can to some degree, it seems to be a lot of training for a small rpm difference. Whereas even a small bend of the elbow, will offer more results. Now how easy is it to learn to bend the elbow if it doesnt come natural ? I dont know but i think that is not easy as well.

I feel that you can practice increasing the rev rate with the current equipment that you have instead of buying a lower weight bowling ball to practice this drill. All you do is cuff your risk a bit more aggressively before the down swing reaches parallel to your leg to uncuff the wrist for a higher rev rate from the release or cuff your risk not as aggressively and have a swing coming down but during that arm motion, you cuff your wrist more aggressively less than a second to uncuff it before your arm reaches parallel to your ankle for higher rev rate too. I played with it a bit but need to play with it more outside of league to get a better understanding of it. I had seen the difference and it works. The timing have to be right and when I was practicing, you can pull on the ball so I don't use it much on the league but I am O.K. with my rev rate even though it is on the low side under 300 RPMs. It will also put more angle on the ball too to a degree depending on your hand position on the ball with a more aggressive cuffed wrist.

Yes you can of course work on this without buying a lighter ball but the main point of this recommendation is that it's easier to learn the strong hand position and to get the feel of the strong/cupped wrist with lighter weights. Often when we jump in and work on anything athletically that requires strength and use too much weight our form suffers and bad habits can develop. This is just one way to get the form and feel correct before you "max out" so to speak.
