Check out the first video where I analysed Maja's skating and set her some homework exercises (which she obviously completed). Notice the differences in her skating now.

Thank you @SkatefreshAsha! So the next step is to increase the speed... I feel like I need to master a few emergency stopping methods before I feel safe enough to go much faster :) But that's the plan for next season!

Well that sounds very sensible and correct. The body will have some hesitation and fear about more speed if it knows the stopping methods aren't perfect yet. So listen to this and add stopping training to your list. Hopefully my free trials of the "How to Stop" courses online could help you out here. Choose which level you want and click "FREE TRIAL" on the course you want to test and your free stopping lesson will be available for you. @@SkatefreshVideos I think I've already watched all your videos, the free trials included ;D I'm working on my powerslides and T-stops almost every time I'm skating (my path is a bit too narrow to learn the turning stops safely), so I hope it's a matter of practice and you'll see me both skate and stop better soon :)

The turns I would recommend learning are the Power slide for instant stopping, T-stop for slow controlled stopping, pizza wedge for slow controlled stopping especially going down hills, and just very tight J turns. Also look far ahead when skating so you can start stopping as early as possible or completely avoid the situation.

Well done, for both of you! Truely a great improvement. I'm a total beginner who started teaching myself inline skating 2 weeks ago, after my 4-year-old daughter signed up for classes. I want to share some learning expierence with her. I can do scissor position glide and parallel turn now, and am working on my T-stop. Your videos helped a lot. Thank you, Asha! Happy skating :)

In March I decided to get back into rollerblading since it was an on and off sort of hobby for me and it was hard having to re-learn everything since it's a skill and without constant practice you will forget certain aspects. It ended up being a very fun experience and I grappled onto what I needed to learn by just practicing and it was amazing? Sadly, I started to deal with health anxiety and I had to stop rollerblading since my motivation was very low and I was struggling with personal issues. I'm starting to get back into rollerblading and it's been rough but I'm excited to re-learn. Only issue is that the heat and lack of trees and shade due to me living on an island really sucks because I heat up quickly. Will continue to watch your videos!!

Welcome back to your skating (again). I always say, your skates are waiting for you whenever you're ready and you can restart any time. You are right to relearn with this attitude of excitement and studiousness. The problem usually is, what should you practice exactly in each session? This is where my online courses cover all bases and give you a tonne of practice drills and exercises that consciously then build up each part of each move. Have you tried the free trials available where you can test out some of these drills and see how they work on you. Here are the ones I;d recommend for you now; skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-beginner-level-full-course/ skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-intermediate-level-full-course/ skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-intermediate-level-full-course/ I hope these are useful for you. High five to Maja, and thank you for sharing your evolution as a skater!!!! You're an inspiration to me! I am working on the same pronation issue you overcame.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Жыл бұрын
You can do it! It's so important to work on and fix your pronation as if it stays it will become very permanent and can cause damage to the ankle or foot (or knee) over time. Our joints were not designed to be put under this kind of pressure. If you'd like help to fix this problem, check out the 2 free drills I have available from one of my online courses. Click Free Trial on this page for a full explanation and demos of the drills which if you do for a few minutes each time you skate you'll start to notice a difference and be able to consciously control your edges. Hi Asha, grateful to find yr basic tutorial video n very useful for me as 50 y.o beginner, my question here, why doesn’t maya do the 🍕 shape as her skills improve? Just wondering that the pizza shape is only for the beginner? Apols for this “might be a silly” question 😊🙏
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Exactly. The pizza shape is only for beginners. Indeed it's wrong if you keep doing it forever. As you progress you develop the ability to stay on one foot so you should start going straight and not in diagonals.

Asha, her chest is not up high. I was told if the chest is facing down you’re most likely to fall down?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. That's right, in fact, if you lean forwards it's also bad for the lower back when you're a beginner. When you are in an intermediate stage you look for a more aerodynamic posture, but the knees are the key to avoid falling over. The posture changes over time, it's what confuses beginners because they want to replicate the advanced skater's posture thinking hunching is to avoid falling backwards, but they are prone to fall forwards due to the straight knees. That's why we as teachers need to keep saying to beginners "Back straight! Knees bent!" Later when you are an intermediate skater you can lean forwards because you have the balance and the strength.

@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
I try my very best not to fall because I am living with a serious hip injury (since Jan 2015) and any fall could be very serious for me if I re-injure my hip. It could literally be the end of my career. So this means I am super careful, I don't take many risks and I can't learn new skills quickly (because I can't push my comfort zone too far). But I fell a few weeks ago (tripped on a small stone I didn't see) and luckily it was OK. But I have to be very, very careful.

Hi is pressure sores on the big toe normal I’ve been skating for a week from a very long brake (years) and one of my big toes feel like it’s on fire. I am flat footed with an instep will I just have to deal with the pain?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. No! First of all you need to rest until your big toe is fine. Don't resume activity until pain is completely gone, otherwise it never heals. That was probably due to overuse after a long break, but it could also be a consequence of bad posture. Second, if you are flat footed you should wear your special insole replacing the original. I hope you are doing that, because if you don't the foot actually takes an incorrect posture and the forces applied are different. If you don't have insoles for your condition I suggest that you get an appointment with an orthopedic specialist who will prescribe them to you. Third, while skating knees must be very bent to the point you don't see the skates if you look down, this will make the weight stay on the ball of the foot. If you feel the weight on the toes or towards the heel something is wrong. If you lean forwards from the waist that is also something that can put more pressure on the toes (apart from giving you lower back pain). Last but not least, the wheels should always be perpendicular to the floor, not tilted. If someone films you you can spot that easily. For now have some rest, you can apply some diclofenac gel/cream a couple times a day to recover quicker. A doctor may also give you pills and of course diagnose if there is something else going on. Don't get discouraged, I know you'll pull through and skate again!
