LOL I was very thrifty when buying. I waited for sales and bought 2nd hand when I could. I know not everyone is into that, but it saved me a LOT of money. I also have a friend that I swap cups with. I buy in the US, they buy in the EU, we swap to keep shipping costs down. It's also why I didn't do cloth pad reviews at the same time. Only room for one collection :P

Best tip: don't give up! It's so worth it. Also, don't form an opinion on a cup that didn't work on a dry run. Give a particular cup several tries over different times in your cycle before forming the opinion on the cup design. Our cervix moves all over the place during different times of the month.

To all those who can't insert it properly or who have problem opening it inside- Sharing my experience- 1st day of using (I wasn't on my period, just tried inserting the cup to practice) - insertion was smooth as I have used a tampon before.. I thought that it opened up, but later when I removed it, I realised that it actually didn't. 2nd day of using - Both insertion and removal were smooth and I thought that it opened up at that time but a few days later I figured out that it still didn't. 3rd day of using (got my periods) - Didn't open up but there was no leaking as the flow was very very less. 4th day of using (2nd day of periods) - At this time I thought that I was used to the cup and thought that it had been opening up inside me. But, on this day the cup was leaking.. that's when I realised that it hadn't been opening properly. 5th day of using (3rd day of periods) - There was no leaking and finally figured out the right way of insertion. Realised the following things- 1. Previously when I used to remove the cup by pulling the stem, it used to come out very easily as no suction was created. But on this day, it wasn't coming out easily which means it has been inserted properly. 2. Earlier I didn't feel the base of the cup rounded when it was inside me but on this day, I finally felt that round part which again means that I opened up as there were no folds. So, that's what I felt I did right during insertion on the 5th day of using it- After doing the punch down fold, I held the cup from the middle but slightly closer to the upper part and then inserted it in. When it was about halfway inside such that the folded part was in, I stopped for a while. The rounded base of the cup was still out. So I very gently held the base and pushed it in. During this process, I actually felt the cup opening inside. Now to further make sure that it opened up, you can go about the base with your finger. You'll feel the rounded base very very prominently. Now just push it in further by holding the base so that you don't feel the stem sticking out. Then, I also tried to pull the stem but the cup didn't start slipping out easily. (You may FEEL that the cup is coming out, but it is actually not. You may feel it because of its MATERIAL, but you would be able to feel the actual resistance so that you know it doesn't come out.) So hope all of this helps, all the best!

During my first cycle with a menstrual cup, I actually had a volunteer activity that required me to walk around for what was almost the whole day. As is usually recommended to beginners, I used the Punch-Down fold with my cup. The day went by, and when I emptied my cup when I got home, I saw that it hadn't actually been properly sealed; part of the rim was still folded into the cup from the punch-down. It was rather scary to discover that I had been walking around the whole day with very minimal leak protection, and no jacket to cover-up if I did. I was very lucky that all of the blood still collected in the cup despite the folded rim, and that the cup didn't shift or leak in the 12 or so hours I was on my feet. It was a very yikes situation, luckily everything turned out ok; I even finished my volunteer work too! (I later discovered that the Labia fold actually works better for me and my cup, so just a gentle reminder to try other folds if ever you find your current one doesn't work as you'd hoped! :D)

qtipp81 BE CAREFUL you always want to reach up with your pointer finger as far as you can and break the suction, by pushing down and over as close to the rim as you can. Your cervix is held up by little tendons constantly just tugging untill it pops on its own is bad for it and may be fine while you are young but when you get older could, maybe be the cause of a prolapse.

And I watched your video and it really helped. I'm so glad that I found your vid because I've tried too many videos but they could really help.

Honestly I've been having so much trouble just putting the whole thing in. I'm worried my vaginal opening isn't large enough for the cup. I'm going to try again with different folds with a smaller insertion point and hopefully it works then. Update: I got it working!! I'm super happy! Lubrication really does help. A lot. To everyone else having trouble with this, keep trying! You'll get it.
@shreyasmr37773 жыл бұрын
Hey, that's exactly what my concern is. I feel like my vaginal opening is just too small i can just put a finger in, not even two, forget about inserting a whole damn cup. How did you finally do it?
@shreyasmr37773 жыл бұрын
I've been trying with the punch down fold as it has a smaller tip but still I JUST CAN'T PUT THE CUP IN
@vidyasainath3 жыл бұрын
@@shreyasmr3777 I totally feel your frustration. First I lubricated opening of the vagina as well as the inner walls, then a punch down fold, then insert as much as a can in one go followed by pushing it more in from the back. Due to the lubricant, it slides in a bit at a time. Then I try to adjust it as much as possible to make sure it's aligned properly. It feels uncomfortable and a bit painful the first couple of times, but go about it slowly and relaxed.
@vidyasainath3 жыл бұрын
@@shreyasmr3777 perhaps the way you are positioned while trying to put it in is the problem? I was only able to put it in with a leg on the toilet and bent forward. I couldn't insert it at all if I was sitting down. Hope this helps!

That's exactly what I was hoping for when I was making "Kim" (the model) :). The plastic models don't show how everything might move and then "cradle" the cup after it's inserted. This particular model is getting replaced soon with Kim v2. The uterus model that I made was too heavy and it kept falling over! :| I hope you had a good weekend :) Thank you for stopping by my channel!

I know this is 3 weeks late, but I'm happy to hear that you found some helpful info in my video. Your concern is very valid. It may take some time to figure out positioning but once you get the hang of it and know what to feel for, won't have any doubts. Personally, I can swipe my finger all the way around my cervix when it's medium to a little on the higher side (if I bear down). So I am able to feel for my cervix after I insert the cup. That might be something that you can do as well to double check position. Have you found a cup to try as your first?

@@RedHerringTV Yes its the Sirona cup. In my 5 day cycle I used only 2 days. The cup I used is a large one, which I found very difficult to insert. It took me approximately 20 mins n to remove it felt like hell, it took 30 to 35 mins to remove. At first I was unable to figure the stem of the cup, n later after figuring it was difficult to pull out... But after a lot of trial I could finally remove it. The first time I used I didn't leaked but the second time I leaked coz of incorrect positiong of the cup. Now let's wait for the next cycle for improvement.... 😊

My grand daughter is of the age that we pretty much know she will start her cycle this school year. She is tiny like I was when I started and my mom refused to let me wear tampons, only pads. Well I’m 60 and the pads they made back then wrapped from my bellybutton to my tailbone. It was nearly impossible to wear one without it showing through my pants. I know my niece may have the same problems. Her mom is much more open minded about tampons but if she had this to start with from the very beginning, I believe she would have a period without the fear of spotting or feel like she’s riding a saddle. Your video was so wonderful. I am sending it to her mom for her to make the decision. If she asks me for advice? Well I know how to help her now. Thank you so much. 👍🏼🤍

This was so helpful! One question. How do you know when the cups sitting correctly in conjunction with your cervix?
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
Hi There! Firstly, our cervix isn't typically located straight up but rather back towards the tailbone. It's a common mistake that many new users make. So when inserting the cup (from a squatting position) aim the cup more back and downward to the tailbone. Second, I always suggest inserting a finger after the cup is in place to make sure that the cup unfolded completely and that the cervix hasn't been pushed to the side. This, of course, is easier if you know what the cervix feels like an where it's located. How to Locate & Measure Cervix: goo.gl/KDuxQK Practice, practice, practice. There's definitely a learning curve and it may take some a little longer to figure out the technique than others, but it's worth it if you can stick it out!

@RedHerringTV7 жыл бұрын
Awww! I'm sorry that you experienced some pain and swelling...and even a small cut :( I've experienced all of those a few times as well. Once you get the hang of it, you won't normally have these issues. Did you need to adjust the cup a lot during the day or did you mean when you needed to empty it and reinsert? If you had to readjust the cup several times for it to be comfortable, this might not be the correct cup for you.
@oncebitebysquirrel7 жыл бұрын
I adjusted it cause I leaked here and there. Towards the end of my period I never leaked..but not sure If I started to finally get it or if my period was lighter....once I adjusted it cause it didn't feel right..and sometimes I can squeeze and feel something but not sure it might be the stem. but at this point I can't see myself cutting it..it helps me grip and hold with one hand while I grab with other hand to take out. I also have a high cervix and not always sure on how high to put it or if I can tell if I am pushing the cup on my cervix or not. I have a small sensitive Lena cup.
@RedHerringTV7 жыл бұрын
You're right to leave the stem if you're unsure about it still. Good thinking! So many people get a new cup and cut the stem completely off thinking, "I cut the other stem off, so I need to do this one too!". It's not always the case. Keep up with it. It sounds like you're still learning. It gets easier and you won't have to think about how and what to do after a while (at least for many of us). Sounds like you're headed in the right direction :D Good Luck
