HOW TO: insert and remove contact lenses
Today we talk about how to put contacts in for beginners, we will go over the insertion of lenses
Frequently asked questions:
“How long can I leave my contact lenses in for?”
If you are using daily disposable lenses then wear them for no longer than 24 hours, and always remove them before sleep. If you are using reusable lenses such as the fortnightlies or monthlies then it’s good practice to discard them after the replacement period.
“If I wear my reusable lenses very rarely, then can I wear them for longer than what it says?”
No, if they are fortnightly lenses, then it’s a fortnight FROM when you opened the seal, and likewise for monthlies it’s one month FROM when you opened the seal. If you are an occasional wearer then you’ll probably benefit from wearing daily disposables as you’re not obliged to wear them more to make up for the cost.
“When I take the lens out of the packaging, do I need to rinse it in saline before I put it into my eye?”
No, the lens should be sterile in the packaging which means there is no need to rinse it separately. Assuming it is sterile, you can insert the lens straight into the eye without rinsing.
“I got taught a different way of inserting the lens, can I still use that method instead?”
Yes, use a method that is the most comfortable for you. If it works, it works. The insertion method I shared today is a "textbook" way of doing it, but if you can find an alternative method for it then go for it, and let me know in the comments what it is.
“If I drop the lens during insertion, should I use a new lens?”
When attempting insertion, try to do it on a clean flat surface. In that way when you drop it you can simply rinse away any debris. My general rule is you should rinse the lens in the solution every 3 attempts. This is because having the lens out in the air for too long will dehydrate the lens making it more and more difficult only for yourself.
“Can I take a nap in contact lenses?”
No.

Also yiou helped me discard the idea of using some tool. I owe you Antonio.

I just got them a week ago. I finally got them to go in on the first try with this method. No matter what I would do the lenses would always pop out on the first blink: I do everything you taught us, but rather than leaving my eye open for the 3 seconds while the contacts settle, I leave my finger in on the lens and close my eye around my finger and let my lids guide my finger out. I don't know if my method is safe, but it is the only one that works! Before I started doing this It would take me 45 min to an hour every single morning to get a single lens in!

I find it easier to use my right index finger to insert the contacts in both eyes. I take my left index and thumb to pull the eye open at the lashes and put the contact lens in with my right index finger. I have tried your method and it works fine. I have not been wearing contacts for long (4.5 weeks). I have had no issues putting the contacts in - My issues were in removing them - that is how I found you - I have had 100% success removing the contacts using your method on the first attempt. You are godsend - thank you!

Antonio, my wife and I have Presbyopia and went to the same Optometrist (without telling her we were related). The Optometrist suggested Air Optix Aqua Multifocal to my wife and Bausch & Lomb SofLens Multi-Focal to me. I asked why and the Optometrist didn't provide a satisfying answer, just said my wife wanted better far away vision than me. Any explanation you can think of? Are the Softlens monthly contacts as the Air Optix? Thank you!

Is it normal to have red veins in the eyes (white part) (not the cornea) when wearing contacts. Even though i don't experience any discomfort when wearing contacts, i develop red veins in the white part of the eye near the cornea. Is it normal? I wear contact lens like almost 3 years already. I use air optix night and day ( i dont sleep with them) i just bought it for the high dk/t.

Being nervous about napping is my least favorite thing with contact lens. Such a bother to need a nap but can't. Is it best practice to take them out before the nap? If wearing dailies, is a new contact required if they are removed for napping/showering etc?
@rajivrao4772
@rajivrao4772 2 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way! My doc told me you can take a 1hr nap in the dailies, however my Google search doesn't recommend even a 20 min nap so I play it safe and remove them before taking a nap. Also you should throw them out and get a fresh pair for when you wake up from the nap, as these contacts are not strong enough to withstand the cleaning solution

Great video. How can taking a nap with contacts in your eyes cause you to potentially lose your sight? Please elaborate on this subject.
@EnergizeOptimizeTV
@EnergizeOptimizeTV 5 ай бұрын
Great question! 😊 When you take a nap with contacts in, especially those not intended for extended wear, it can impact the amount of oxygen reaching your cornea. During sleep, the eyes receive less oxygen, and the presence of contacts can limit it further. This reduction in oxygen supply, combined with potential deprivation of nutrients, can lead to issues like corneal neovascularization. Corneal neovascularization involves the growth of new blood vessels into the cornea, and it can be associated with decreased vision and increased risk of infections. It's crucial to follow your eye care professional's recommendations on wearing schedules, use lenses designed for extended wear if necessary, and avoid sleeping with contacts unless specifically advised otherwise. Regular check-ups and proper lens care are key to maintaining healthy eyes! 👁💙 🌟😊

Hi, Antonio! I love this video! Just finishing up my finalizing my contacts prescription! I can see through them better than with glasses! This has helped me so much! Putting them in is a pain and taking them is beyond easy. I cannot seem to put them in if I watch myself in the mirror lol I have a question I need some advice on! I recently got new glasses and I have a weird issue, lights are double. I look at my light on the ceiling and I see another, fainter copy underneath it and it's kinda green. Worn glasses since the 7th grade and never experienced this. I'm afraid I sound like a total fool! Any advice?! Rx is: OD - SPH --1.50 CYL- -.50 AXIS 14 OS - SPH --1.75 CYL- -50 AXIS 166 Contact Rx: BC 8.6 DIA 14.0 PWR -1.75 (right eye) & PWR -2.00 (left eye)
@AntoniotheOptometrist
@AntoniotheOptometrist Жыл бұрын
That’s a difficult one, it seems as though the glasses and contacts Rx match so I’m a bit puzzled but if I was in this situation I’d double check that the pupillary distance and fitting heights were correct and after that perhaps the lens design (spherical vs aspherical)
@lizlarson45263
@lizlarson45263 11 ай бұрын
Well....I was frustrated and went to a different clinic and bought glasses that work! All those issues are gone! Apparently the axis numbers were way off and I was over prescribed! I didn't even realize this was my first time without my bifocal add! It was screwed up. I'm going to see about getting a refund from America's Best....

I have been wearing contact lenses for 20 years and I was taught that you should lean on a flat surface so that your back is almost 90 degrees down, and to put a drop of the solution onto the lens. I shall try it your way but honestly the thought of putting it in dry whilst vertically it's terrifying lol

Wow, 20 years of contact lens experience is impressive! 😲 It's interesting how everyone develops their own techniques. If you feel comfortable with your current method, that's fantastic. But hey, exploring new ways can sometimes bring unexpected ease. If you decide to try the new technique, take it at your own pace. Your comfort is key! 🌟 Have you noticed any differences in comfort or ease with the new method so far? Excited to hear how it goes for you! 👀💙 🚀😊
