Awesome job. I just bought my father in laws 2018 colorado 3 months ago to replace my ranger. The colorado has a much heavier tailgate and I was used to having the tailgate assist on a silverado for a previous job I had. For $20 it seems like a no brainer.

For sure. You’d just have to leave the blind nut in the tailgate. But otherwise it’s totally removable.

Do you need one on each side? Can you install one on each side, or would that offer too much damping? Great how to!!

Got mine from Amazon today, unfortunately, someone screwed up their blind nut install and ordered another kit to steal that part from it, then returned it to AMZ. I got the incomplete kit. The order picker should have been fired, it was obvious the kit they picked for me was a return and missing parts. Oh, well, maybe ill reorder again or get it from Dee Zee directly, its only 2$ more and it will probably be new.

Why not just return yours to Amazon and get another. Could have been an honest mistake.

Do you need one on each side? If not, with it only on one side, does the tailgate feel “lopsided”? If you installed one on each side, would that make it “too damped”?

One side is sufficient. It’s not lopsided at all. I don’t think the kit is able to be installed on the other side.

Check the DeeZee website. They might have a kit specific to 1st gen Colorados. This kit in this video is specific to 2nd gen trucks.
