How to Install a Front Dash Cam (12v Cigarrette Lighter Method)

Here’s a quick guide to everything you need to know about getting up and running with your new Dash-Cam. There are two options to installing a Dash-Cam; In this guide we will show you the 12v cigarette lighter installation method.
You will need:
- A Dash-Cam
- SD memory card
- & a car with a 12V cigarette light supply
Dash-Cams need to be positioned correctly on your windscreen to meet UK driving laws.
Here are a few top tips for positioning your camera.
- Don’t position your camera in the red zone. This is the driver’s view of the road. Obscuring your view could be dangerous.
- Do position your camera so it sits on the edge of the green zone. The green zone shows the surface area that your windscreen wipers clean. This prevents any dirt on the windscreen from obscuring your view.
Once you have identified where your Dash-Cam will be placed, we can get started.
Using the power cable provided plug the camera into the 12V power supply, guide the cable around your windscreen. To keep it nice and tidy, tuck the cable neatly across the top of the windscreen and down the side.
Please ensure that wiring is secure and does not impede the function of controls or safety systems.
Place the suction cup onto the windscreen, for most vehicles this will be just behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side. Make sure to avoid the black spotted area as this can affect the suction.
This location captures the best view of the road and the dash cam remains safe and out of the driver’s view.
Insert the memory card into the side of the device and clip the camera into position.
