Wondering if the cover still goes over the shelf?

I’ve got the 700FB as well. Had to add a side shelf, handy with three hooks and a paper holder (butcher; paper towels too think). This add-on will be great as I’ll have that prep area AND I can add a few more hooks as needed. I plan to add this on and paint it with a Texas flag, but I’ll simply do plain for now. Thx a ton!

How is the shelf holding up? Did those screw hold the brackets to the legs?

Hey Andrew, the front shelf is holding up just as it did when I installed it. The screws do hold the brackets on the legs. I’ve had no issues at all with this.

Will this work on pit boss 440D2 ?
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dennis, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You’d have to remove the bottle opener to make it work. It’s a great feature to have on the grill. Don’t forget if your grill is new and you do this mod to your grill it will probably be voiding the warranty as you’re drilling holes into it

Sounds good to me. You definitely won’t regret putting it on. I’m pretty sure the 440 is smaller then the 700 I got so cut your shelf according to the size of your grill.

Hey, looks great, great mod. For that rust, ill bet that front plate was just trapping heat in that area, not letting it cool down and boom. Any rust on the back side of that barrel bottom? Looking at one of these things, are they using the same steel as 2 years ago do you think? Thanks!
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 3 жыл бұрын
That could’ve been what happened to the front with the rusted area. The backside of the cooking chamber has no rust at all. I would say they’re still using the same steel as the one I’ve got based off the display ones they have setup at Walmart.

@@paulsq_ Cool, I'm thinking now I should have bought into the pellet world 2 years ago, I was surprised you can sear on them. I'm reaching the limits of my WSM. It's amazing and I love coal but I think these grills are far more versatile. I'm running low on space around here, this thing covers alot of options I see now!
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 3 жыл бұрын
They’re really good grills and versatile like you mentioned. I wouldn’t get rid of your WSM I’d hang on to it and get a pellet grill, as it can be good for if you have friends over you’ll have that much more cooking area, plus you can cold smoke or even hang things to smoke with it. I love my WSM even though I haven’t used it in a bit now.

Hey Paul if you ever bring that pit Boss up to a 400 or 500 degrees because after you took that plate off and you showed how it was burned on the barrel I might just take it back and go get a different pellet grill other than a pit Boss I'm curious if you only have it at 250° is it still going to burn up the metal

Why take off that front plate? Seem brackets screwed on front of legs not sides. Wouldn't that plate keep heat off board. You can see that area gets hot. Just thinking hmmmmm
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Gary, I took off the front plate as the screws for it run right through where the top ones on the bracket go so to avoid the two sets of screws hitting each other just removed it. It doesn’t make that big a deal without it to block any heat from hitting the wood shelf

When you put your “spacer” between the bracket and the leg correct? Did you put a spacer on all four screws or just the top two?
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct, the spacer goes between the bracket and the leg as you can see me do in the video. I also only show them being placed on the top two screws to compensate for the taper on the leg to level the brackets.

I did add a chimney to my grill. I added it just to get the look of the grill as I think it should’ve been. If you’re thinking of getting one of these grills I’d highly recommend it as it’s done nothing but good for me. I’m looking at getting a vertical myself just to hang things like sausages.

Hell yeah Paul. I love it. This will definitely be the next Modification i will be doing. Great video. 1 question i have for you. Do you think that the heat will affect the shelf when it is down? I have not looked behind my front logo plate so I am wondering if my pit is starting to rust like yours is. I wonder if that plate holds the heat in a d now with the shelf it will not hold it in as much. Let me know how you like it as you use it a few times. Great job brother.
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Brandon! I don’t think the heat will affect it while it is down. I’m planning on leaving the shelf in the work/up position while I’m using the grill. By the time the grill cools down and I’m ready to cover it that’s when I’ll put the shelf down. You might be surprised too when you take the logo plate off. I’ll let you know how I’m liking it once I start using it. I still need to finish the wood off for it lol

Great video Paul, thanks. Never thought about putting the shelf on the legs. I was wondering how you would do that. Where did you get the folding hinges. Think I’d have to put mine a little higher. I’m 6’4”, so that might be to low for me😊. One question, why a spacer on the top screws only. May have missed something
@paulsq_
@paulsq_ 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks TYRANUS! I put a link to the hinges that I used in the description of the video. They have many different kinds to choose from on Amazon. If you’re 6’4” it will be a bit low for you. To get it at grate level for you it would be a bit more work and you have to either drill into the cooking chamber or weld them on if you didn’t want to drill into it. I put the spacer on the top screws only because of the taper on the legs. So the bottom ones are at zero and the top got spaced out to level the hinges.
