I have to agree on this. We went to fix a flue that was far too long on a rented property today. No rubber and they had spray painted the white to hide the fact that they couldn't be bothered to cut the flue down. When we told the landlord, she wouldn't believe us as it had been passed for years. It wasn't until we showed her the manufacture's instructions that she realised it was wrong. She thought we were fishing for work, like we need to do that at any time of the year but specifically this time of year. Nothing worse than putting other peoples work right.

I used to have a Stanley toolbox with a slot in the top which was just the job for cutting down flues, stopped it slipping. Hacksaw with 32tpi blade does a neat cut, and a half round file to take off the rough edge does a good job. Always seal up with mortar inside and out, then all regs are covered👍🏻

@ 4:18 I usually put the flue pipe in a 110 mm drain pipe that i fix in the wall with gypsum (hardens very quickly). Lately I leave the 110 mm 1-1.5 cm pipe protruding inside and insert a short screw through it to the outer tube from the flue pipe of the boiler so that it cannot be accidentally removed from the elbow part of the boiler. I prefer to put the chimney in a 110 mm pipe so that in the future, the next time the boiler is replaced, the replacement of the flue will be much easier.

@all4heatinggaslimited403 жыл бұрын
Wow Allan this is the best video I have seen about flue, I prefer hacksaw, so you have total control of cutting the flue, safe, neat and then file it. Differently I use mortar inside and out, so it is secure and sealed properly and definitely on ideal as it does not have screws and clamp as you said anyone can pull the flue out. Excellent video Thank you Allan. My advice is never rush in your job, be calm and read MI properly. I just hate flues sticking out the wall, and whoever does this, it's under cutting other good professionals. It's shamble.

As an exideal field engineer, we would want to see the flue sealed with sand and cement, as you said we rely on it to hold the flue in place. Also with the inner fall of the exhaust, it is built in, but if you are adding extensions and extending the flue, depending on the length, you may need to add a fall into the flue.
@AllenHart9993 жыл бұрын
I phoned ideal today and they said it didn’t need sand and cement. Personally I would always seal it up. Thanks.
@kevincranfield52353 жыл бұрын
I believe you, but our training department and managers where all under the notion they had to be sealed. If they were not sealed at least either on the outside or inside, we would leave a warning notice and potentially turn off the boiler, so I would advise nobody to take that chance.

3:12 i usually put the flue level or 1-2 degrees down (especially at viessman boilers) during service interventions, most defects in the electronic board, fan and defective gas valves are caused by rainwater entering the outer tube from the exhaust pipe in the boiler. And the guys at viessman were nice enough to make sure that any drop of water that gets from the flue to the combustion chamber will reach either the electronic fan plate or the gas valves ... now they have chosen a location more decent but still could not bear to put a collar for water capture and drainage as other manufacturers do: P

@keithwright72592 жыл бұрын
from the video and gassafe TB 152 seems sand / cement sealing on both wall leafs is the most reccomended way too 1 secure flue orientation & position and restrict flue removal (with manuractuers clamps & screws if any). 2 help the manufactuers seals/trims exclude gas & rain from the wall cavity interior PS with new homes beiing air tight tested they cant tolerate many air leaks or draughts in or out. Reliable seals on the inner wall needed to stop air movement from cavities.. Fun and games if your doing replacments and bricking outer walls but not doing much wih the inner leaf & sealing.
